LOL I wish it was just UW .... ;D If it was, they'd be the favorite to win the NCAA title this year.

Wow, what was up with Team USA? Not one starter was relaxed, they all seemed tight, making uncharacteristic mistakes.
What did China do different this time? It seemed like USA has had their number lately....did they up their tempo? That's gotta be the FASTEST offense I've seen yet.

Very disappointing loss, they could not beat China even when their best player Zhao Rui Rui is missing yet give credit to her replacement, Zhang who was the second best scorer in the match.
What is up with Phipps recently? she is in a hitting slump. Very disappointing performance from her in the past few months

That is right, Rui Rui, China's 6'6" middle blocker left the match early in game 1 because of a leg injury and never came back. Apparently that injury has not healed totally.
P. Zhang, #18 of China was unstoppable. The US had trouble stopping the middle attack.
Didn't recognize Wang Li Na, she gained a lot of weight since Sydney 2000. Also Hao Yan looks bigger these days. Even then, both were almost unstoppable.

USA was horrible today. I have faith they will pull it together, they won't play again like they did today. Phipps was horrible and she knew it too. The looks on her face when she made mistake after mistake gave that away. USA block was nonexistent, which does not bode well because that is their game. I am attempting to record all the volleyball from the Olympics and burn it to DVD, that is if all my computer equipment comes through in crunch time. Anyway, China got the better of us today, but I have faith we can still get gold.

USA has some different blocking techniques. Sometimes when Robyn was in the front row, she would back off the net, and the middle and left side would slipe all the way over to block the right side and Robyn would either be right behind the block or take the left front position.
USA played a tight match and should relax over the next few days.

I've got it on tape, but I'm sure others have better. Mine is full of chunky weather alert graphics and interrupts.

Passing definitely was the reason for the Americans loss. However, on the positive side, look how close the games were and considering how poorly they passed, if they just got things together they could definitely have beaten China. China on the other hand passed extremely well. Not only is their libero impressive but all the outsides and opposites can pass as well. China had a great service game as well, and that is also one of the reasons the US had so much passing trouble. When the USA was in system though, and Robyn has the opportunity to isolate hitters, the US offense was very successful. Good to see Danielle Scott with some offensive production, because as we all know she needs to be the point producer that she was in Sydney. Logan Tom had a decent match in terms of her serving, blocking, and passing, but she needs to get her offensive game in gear if the US team wants to win a medal. The majority of her balls were dug. Ogonna provided a good offensive lift, but the other parts of her game aren't strong enough for her to be a full time force at this point. However, her attacking was spectacular at moments, and she seems very composed out there. Tayyiba Haneef was hot and cold, which seems to be the pattern. There are times where she is unstoppable and then times where she makes poor hitting choices. I think Ty needs to step up big in the blocking department. Wang Lina and Hao, the outsides for China, completey had their way on the outside. At 6'7'' she needs to make her blocking presence much more felt. What can you say about Keba Phipps, not only was she struggling in the hitting department, but what I was most dissapointed with was her attitude. At 37 and undoubtedly the most experienced player on the squad, I would expect her to be the last person to be sulky, however she was and it definitely affected the attitude and emotional level of the US team. On a positive note, while the US had a tough time with the quick sets, they were very effective blocking the high balls. That should bode well against most of the other teams that they will encounter because China has probably the most sophisticated offensive scheme( Brazil as well). Given the situation that it was the first match of the Olympic Games, and having to play China, which is a gold medal contender right off the bat, I wouldn't be completely discouraged by the USA's performance. The players are too good, and Toshi is too good to let this match dictate the rest of their play. I look forward to the match against Germany on Monday.

Keba's performance was really really disapointing. I think she commited like 4 overpasses that automatically led to points for the Chinese. Tom was a bit off today but she seemed to be carrying to large of a load passing and defending. In college, she could do it all, but I dont' think she can carry an entire team at this high of a level. Not that many players can. Happily, Scott looked fantastic. She was automatic and racked up the blocks. Bown was pretty much only a MiddleBLOCKER, not a MiddleHitter. Her balls could not find the floor and that seems to be a pattern of late. Ah Moh also seemed off on some of her sets. She seemed to have a hard time connecting to Logan, particularly setting her too low. She also made some poor decisions. Not a great match from her. I wish Toshi had kept Ogonna in the match and put Metcalf in to pass, aleviating some of the pressure of a two person serve receive (which wasn't working). I'm guessing Metcalf wouldn't be up for this and Toshi has already considered this permutation.
