We stayed at the Sea Club Resort in 2015, JB - if you don't mind the mile walk to the Ft Lauderdale Beach Park, it was a great location and pretty decently priced. We are at the Solas this year - $190 but its a two bedroom suite with a kitchen and sleeps 4, so that will end up being pretty reasonable for the 4 of us - also about a one mile walk to the venue. Too bad the Yankee Clipper is not still there like in the old AVP tournament days!
I see 6 Brazilians teams registered and 5 from the Czech Republic - kinda cool!
Does anyone know if there a six team limit to actually register, or can more teams sign up and then they simply play country quota matches?

Got to love the 2bedrooms!!

With the FIVB points system Sara Hughes and Kelly Claes are ranked 7th amongst USAV beach teams. Only 6 spots for USA players in this FIVB event so they were left out. And yes since it is a "USAV sanction event" they would be able to play, with any winnings going toward actual expense only. Fendy picked up Hughes to help her gain points (and hopefully play well) with the hopes another main draw or qualy player would pick up Claes. The college athletes need points any way they can gather them for a run at the international FIVB events together after college. Some players had complained that C&H were given wild cards before for other events. Politics and points override logic and talent sometimes. Whats the obstacle to just holding a country quota or a US qualifier? More shortsighted nonsense from USAV. Why not deny the most promising young US team since JJJ/Nettie in favor of a 35 year old who has a career high of 4th in 90 events? And that's one of the higher ranked US players. USAV needs to be a little colder, take a look at the players who want to enter and say: Who has the potential to ever win an FIVB Major? Anyone who is not on that list needs to go to the back of the line. or Just hold a competition to get in that doesnt depend on having entered 76 events over the last 9 years.

What is the reasoning behind Fendrick picking up Hughes?

Well C&H won every Norceca they entered on US soil and abroad last year or two. Some times beating US teams 21-6, 21-8. Yet back to the end of the line.

I'm confused here. Claes & Hughes could have entered if they wanted, correct? Would just have to play in the country quota and qualifier. Is this just that Hughes opted to get into the main draw? It's not a perfect system, but Claes/Hughes will just have to grind through some tournaments where they're not in the main draw and eventually they'll no doubt end up with the points they need.

Reading Here (http://www.fivb.org/EN/BeachVolleyball/Document/2017FIVB_BVB_Sports_Regulations_Final_20161202.pdf) It looks like entry points are the 2 player's points combined. NOT team earned points. Hughes playing with Fendrick gets them higher up the entry list. I'm surprised CLAES couldn't get a Higher ranked partner, but actually like her with Reeves.

At this point Lauren isn't as dynamic as Kelly but an overall better and much more experienced player so I'm excited to see them play. Lauren and Brooke had a few very good 5th place finishes last year in grand slams/majors and I'd say Hughes is an upgrade at least in her offense. Wouldn't be surprised to see them medal. What is the plan once college season starts? Is Lauren going to play with Kelly?

Sorry, I'm still confused at this. If Hughes and Claes are going to play together this season, why wouldn't they start here, even if they don't get seeded into the main draw?

Not an expert, this is what I heard.
6 teams possible for USAV to enter into FL FIVB. There is no Country Qualifier.
Based upon points C&H currently ranked 7th in USAV rankings. In a game of chairs, that leaves them at home together.
You split them up to go in individually with someone that has more points, aka F&H, they are in main draw with guaranteed points for Hughes, Claes gets in the qualifier with someone else, and has a chance to make some headway, gain some points for herself.
Now, instead of being home garnering zero points, they divide and conquer, each earning some points, that they can then gather together as a team later with more than they had before this silly little dance.

Bump for this. How are Phil/Nick not playing in a Florida event? No Crabb/Gibb or Patterson/Theo? Any other mainstays missing on either side?
