So, pretty much, USA must go through:
Brazil
Italy - Cuba Winner
and basically the China - Russia winner to win gold, right?
Sounds like pool play all over again.

I think that the semi finals are :
Cuba/Italy vs Japan/China
US/Brazil vs Rus/Kor
So we would then have to go through Brazil, then Russia, then winner of China/Cuba or Italy
I haven't read this anywhere, but it makes sense to me that they wouldn't have the top two teams from each pool in the same bracket.

Brazil is the last team that the US wants to face. Too bad Brazil couldn't get matched up w/ Cuba. They always seem to give them trouble.

It would make it all the more satisfying if they beat Brazil to knock them out of medal contention. Brazil has been the one team that the USA just hasn't been able to beat consistently, and we all are aware that the Brazilians beat out the AMericans for the bronze in Sydney. If the USA is the #1 team in the world, they should be able to knock out all the top dogs. It will be extremely tough, but I am hoping for a breakthrough.

I am actually happy with a matchup against Brazil. I think I would rather see the US team against Brazil than Italy. Italy has been a real problem for the along with China (who was in the same pool). Out of all the top teams, I think the US has the best chance to beat Brazil.

for a quarterfinal match-up, i would have taken italy over brasil any day of the week and twice on weekends.
brasil is so quick, so fast with their offense.... they've only been perfect so far.
in the grand prix 5-game semifinal match, oganna, tayyiba and logan each had 21 points. i don't think we're gonna see those numbers from oganna this time around. the middles will be super important.

Brazil has been very good recently; still I think they're the team that would allow Team USA to play their own game. With both teams at their best this should be a match-up that can go either way.
Since getting JPN or KOR was no option, I'd think Team USA is better off against BRA than Italy.
