I had a nice time watching the end-of-double-days scrimmage Saturday afternoon. I have an idea of who I'd put in as the starting lineup from what I've seen, but there are about 3 spots still up-for-grabs, on my list. However, that may or may not be what the coaches go with. I do have to admit though, I really do enjoy the coaching style at Hawaii in practices. It's not what you see during the matches, and they are very concise and down-to-earth with the players in their teachings. I do believe that Wahine fans will be pleasantly surprised with this team this season. Yes, there purposely is no scouting report here. See you on the 2nd!!

Can you tell us more?
Who among the newcomers are standouts?
Who do you think are potential starters, aside from Melody Eckmier and Kanoe Kamana'o?
Is Dave Shoji planning to keep 18 players? Who are the others who aren't listed on the roster yet?

Yes, there purposely is no scouting report here. Well, then, what the hell was the purpose of this post? I mean, other than to make yourself feel good with another one of your famous "I was there, but you weren't" dribble posts.

Who are the others who aren't listed on the roster yet? From what I understand, the other two players who are not currently listed on the website roster are Vanessa Earl, a 6'0" freshman from Kalaheo High School who was named to the second team in the OIA East, and Kahealani Silva, a 5'3" sophomore libero from Hilo High, who played at UH-Hilo last year and led the DII Pac West Conference with 4.31 digs per game. She was also named to the all-conference team.

ha ha. That's a good one. But who mentioned anything about basketball? Oh, you meant "drivel". (sorry, I couldn't resist)

It's anyone's guess right now, I suppose, but technically, I don't think that Wells and Ong were "sent home" last year. I believe they redshirted and were taking classes at UH last year. I think that's why Kelly's coming in as a (redshirt) freshman this year.

I do believe that Wahine fans will be pleasantly surprised with this team this season. From what I've seen of the team in practice, I'm already pleasantly surprised. In the practice that I got to see, they didn't look particularly good in their initial warm-up drills and I thought, "uh-oh, it will be a long season". But then, when they started getting into things and mixing it up in scrimmages, I was pleasantly surprised. If anyone stood out to me (and that's a big "if" because they all seemed to do some good things at one time or another), it would have been Victoria Prince. She did a lot of real nice things on the court. But then, like I said, so did a lot of the others -- Boogard, Arnott, Fotu, Sanders, Eckmier, Thurlby, Watanabe, Gregory, (I could go on and on), Hittle, Thomas and of course, Kamana'o. (I know I left some people out, but it wasn't intentionally.) Jessica Keefe didn't participate too much because she's still rehabbing from her knee injury. I don't know her current status or her outlook for the season.
