Hey y'all! I know I have been away for a while, but I thought I'd drop some new WSU knowledge for anyone who is curious about the program. WSU's team morale was in complete shambles at the end of last season. Seven players left the team as well as coaches Cindy Fredrick, Dr. Marshallah Farohkmanesh and Jen Greeny. Scholarships were given to most of the remaining players on the team limiting recruitment options. The team was without a coach for a full month. Enter: Brian Heffernan, Kevin Wray and Jody Garry This trio has given the Cougar squad new life. Heffernan convinced star middle hitter Jen Todd and setter Kali Richards to return to the team. They recruited in 5'11 setter Gwen Davis. I've talked with the team and they have all separately said that there has been a 100% improvement over the end of last season. They seem happier and full of energy! It is encouraging to me as a Cougar supporter to see that these young women are once again enjoying being part of their team. I'll be brief, but Brian, Kevin and Jody are fantastic people and I am soooooo excited to have them as part of the Cougar family. Minnesota fans, we'll take good care of Brian here. He's one of the most genuine human beings I have ever met and it is greatly appreciated by his staff, players and fans. Kevin Wray and Jody Garry are both fabulous as well. I'm sooooooo stoked to have them in Pullman! Any specific Coug questions? Drop me a line.

Tell him we miss him--and Carol, K, and J, too! Ditto on that for all the Heffernan's. Superfan, I'm glad you've and others at WSU have quickly learned that Brian is indeed a very genuine and special person. I very much enjoyed the many conversations I've had with Brian during his tenure at Minnesota. The very first time I showed up to a practice after he had joined the coaching staff he came up into the stands to introduce himself and we chatted for several minutes during one of the team "water breaks". I'm very happy for his opportunity as WSU and wish him and WSU (even if they're in the Pac-10) a lot of success. I won't be surprised if he manages a significant turnaround in WSU's success even this year. It would be nice to see the team make the NCAA tournament in his first year with the team.

Well, Golly. A single solitary tear of joy trickles down my cheek. That is so sweet, (R)uffda and Gorf. WSUSuperfan, you think that the Cougs will finish better than 9th in the Pac-10 still? I think they'll finish 8th this year. But, I don't doubt that they'll build back up soon.

I'll be nicer if Hef sends me an email. Until then... eeyh. He did. Remember? He just sent it to me by mistake. I forwarded it. But that was before you became so anti-'Sota.

He did. Remember? He just sent it to me by mistake. I forwarded it. But that was before you became so anti-'Sota. Yeah... but I sent him a reply to the one that you sent to me from him by mistake and he didn't answer back, unless he again sent it to you by mistake. Right? Unless of course you made up the whole charade and are REALLY Brian Heffernan like some people believe!!!!! AHA! CAUGHT! Red-handed. Now I understand the rift between you and Gorf, he's sad that you left him. Remind me to remind my parents to lock up the dog at night, though.

In which case, he replied to you and not to me. The scumbag! Gorf was right!

Call me an optimist, but I think 8th is underestimating the Cougs severely. Granted the Pac-10 is loaded this year (what's new?) but I see us sweeping Oregon and ASU then splitting our series with OSU and possibly Cal. Who knows? If Arizona doesn't grow out of their Jekyll and Hyde routine they risk getting surprised at Bohler. USC, UCLA, Stanford and UW... ehh... Never discount the Cougs at home.

And here I thought I was being polite by giving the Cougs an 8th place finish. I actually can see them placing over Arizona State now that I've seen their updated roster... I'll bump them up to 7th now. But, a split with Cal? Even in Bohler, that's gonna be a tough one!

>-(Gorf)-<[} link=board=general&thread=1093449753&start=2#0 date=1093459567] I very much enjoyed the many conversations I've had with Brian during his tenure at Minnesota. The very first time I showed up to a practice after he had joined the coaching staff he came up into the stands to introduce himself and we chatted for several minutes during one of the team "water breaks". It was a pre-emptive strike there, Gorfy. He was checking you out to find out who you were and why you were there. Not taking anything away from him, though. I'm sure he is a very good person. It's just that I know that, in that situation, I would have done the same thing (and if fact I have done it many times myself, I like to know who everyone is that is in the gym during a practice I'm running...just to make sure none of these visitors have "hidden agendas").

OMG SoBB.
You've been checking me out?
I'm so flattered, we've never even had our first date yet.
My wife gets pretty jealous though, and she has a very effective knock out punch. Plus, being a teacher, I'm sure she'll make sure you get a plethora of demerits and plenty of time in the principle's office!
Besides, it was (R)uffda! that Brian was having checked out. (R)uffda! sits in the stands all quiet like, pretending to be shy, always scribbling things on his clipboard. He claims to be taking stats on the matches, but we're all sure he's some sort of Russian super spy. Whom else could drink that much vodka and still sing the the rouser with only a minor slushing slur?

Not just once, but several times. Took a couple of years for the coaching community to believe he really wasn't spying for other teams in the league.

I have had the opportunity to talk with Brian on many occasions. He used to be a regular in attendance at the Long Beach State practices, when he was living and attending school at the Beach. He also interviewed for the #2 assistant job, when we hired Joy McKienzie. He is a class act and a fine student of the game.....I hope he kicks ass in Pullman!
