All things video games.
I recently bought FIFA 17 (get up to date Wolfgang!). Playing a season with Chelsea FC.
I bought Farming Simulator 17 at Christmas time. It's as boring as running a farm sounds, but has a way to keep pulling me back in. Trying to build up a financial supply to adequately care for pigs and cows.
I completed the main story line of GTAV. Every time I play it, I find something new. There's so much in that game.

I'm behind on a lot of games. That's why I go back to trace the evolution. I played FIFA back in the late 1990s and hated it. I started with PES in the early 2000s and loved it. As PES started to suck, I need to go back to FIFA to see what I missed. So, in 2013, I was going all the way back to FIFA 08. Now, I'm on FIFA 15. I need to fully explore it before I move on.
Another thing limiting my ability to play modern games is that I have PS3. It still plays great so I feel it's a waste (and bad consumer mentality) to buy PS4.
I didn't know what "GTAV" was until I looked it up. Yeah, I need to play that -- and all the GTA games in the series.

For fun I recently bought an old game called "Plague Inc." It was designed as a mobile app, so it's pretty limited compared to a real PC game. But it had a few good days of amusement in it. The point of the game is to become a pathogen (like a bacteria, a virus, a parasite, etc.) and destroy all of humanity. Once humans notice you are there, they will start working on a cure. You have to balance being infectious v. being lethal, because if you are too lethal then you will kill off your hosts before you spread. Ideally you get very infectious, spread to everyone in the world, and then turn lethal and kill them all before they can develop a cure.
Once you've done it a few times it gets a little mechanistic, but there are a couple of variants that are little more interesting for replay value. For instance, one plague is just a normal virus at first, but you can develop a symptom that turns victims into zombies. After that, even if they develop a cure you can still send your zombie hoards around to kill people (and make more zombies). But the humans start up "Z-com" (good luck, commander!) and you need to fight Z-com.
Another infection is a brain worm that you can either use to kill off all of humanity or you can infect all of humanity and mind control them, eventually getting the infected humans to worship the worm as god. They start fighting against the cure. That's also a path to winning.

For someone like myself who knows nothing about video games, what would be the best system and game to start with?

For someone like myself who knows nothing about video games, what would be the best system and game to start with? You have to decide for yourself what you like and don't like, from role-playing games to sports games. I tend to gravitate toward sports games but I've thoroughly enjoyed many role playing games. As for platform, all I ever owned was the Sony PlayStation -- from the original PlayStation to PS2 to now PS3. Never had any problems despite years of playing. They just never went bad. The only reason I upgraded was because I wanted to play certain games that were not available in the older generation systems. I don't know much about the Xbox or Wii and the like.

Eventually, you won't be able to get any new games for the PS3, especially as the PS5 is coming soon. As for GTA, GTAV is a world-class game. I would suggest there is really no reason to buy a former game in the series, as they don't really interconnect. There are a few references in GTAV to former games, but nothing significant to the story-line. I played two other games in the series (GTA3 and San Andreas, I believe), but none are close to the offerings of GTAV.

And these games are what is leading our kids to a life of theft and murder. I say they aren't, because if they were playing these games instead, they wouldn't have time to steal anything.

For someone like myself who knows nothing about video games, what would be the best system and game to start with? If you aren't a gamer now don't start. I see too many young people today that spend hours playing video games and they could be doing more productive things with their time. They get sucked in and many people cannot limit their gaming time. Now, if you are retired and looking for something to occupy your free time then that is understandable if you want to try video games if you have never really played them.

They're one of the top clubs in the English premier league and has like a gazillion dollars in its budget. I usually start with some bottom-of-the-barrel team like Penafiel (of the Portuguese League), SC Paderborn (of the German 2 league in FIFA 14), or Le Mans (of the French 2 league in FIFA 14). Speaking of GTA, is Grand Theft Auto IV any good?
