Just returned home from Fort Lauderdale. If you haven't been to a Swatch Beach Major, I cannot begin to explain how massive the production is for a beach volleyball tournament. From air conditioned rooms for officials to the enormous air conditioned VIP building, to a ton of security, to multiple DJs, announcers, mascots, and on court entertainment, lines people at every match, live streaming every day on every court.....The cost to put this show on has to be unreal. Any idea how much it costs and who pays the bill? Do Swatch and Red Bull pay for all that?

Swatch RedBull with deep sports coffers. They had some cool ads on NBC Saturday for RedBull series & RedBull TV. AutoNation also had ads on NBC.
There were a few European & Brazilian companies also flashing ads on players & electronic media during the event.
VIP tickets were $1800 ea, although the food & drinks were top shelf.
City of Fort Lauderdale tourist commission most likely threw in some $$.

Hannes Jagerhofer (the promoter) definitely knows how to throw a party. He also runs the Klagenfurt event, which is pretty much universally regarded as the best tour stop for players and fans. If you ever have the opportunity, go to a tournament at Klagenfurt. It's unreal.
Heard that he and the sponsors are happy with Ft. Lauderdale, and want to make it an annual major. Also, he's looking at Toronto as a site for another major next year.

BTW, it is put on by a private company, the promotor that is backed by Swatch and RedBull. Sanctioned as an FIVB and USAV event.

Cool, I didn't know that had been confirmed. At any rate, my understanding is the general idea is to put an annual major in Toronto to go along with Ft. Lauderdale, Klagenfurt, Porec, and I forgot the fifth one, and have the World Tour Finals rotate among those sites.

Hamburg is among those as well. It looks like they might have 6 cities hosting 5 tourneys and the tour finals as the 6th. Likely rotating who hosts tour finals.
I know the the sponsors in Toronto were hoping to have a July date, to capitalize on the huge beach volleyball scene in mid summer/drawing more kids who are out of school at the time. Although end of august should satisfy both of those. Hannes was really happy with last years tourney. Was the best "1st time" event they had between Porec, Hamburg, FL. No doubt it continues to grow.
