Close match, good win for Minnesota after a slow start. Final 4 rematch tomorrow. Oh yeah, the NACWAA hosting jinx continues.

Paula had a great night for the Gophers. Surprised Katie Jo Shirley-Cahoon didn't get more sets.

Idahoser, I tried to tell you, but you just wouldn't listen.
Anyhow, as you can tell from the scores, things were not going too well for the Gophers. They were not passing well and CSU was having no problems with the Minnesota serve. The Gophers were playing great defense, but there was not a whole lot of offense. They looked tight. All the sets were going outside, because of the passing no doubt, but probably also because they were tight.
But Paula turns the match around in game 2, scoring 9 straight points on her serve. The setters come to life in transition. Everybody gets set. CSU becomes rattled. Martin starts scoring.
From there, things just get better. Nelson is all over the back row running down balls (yep, Nelson). KBow starts smacking the ball. Rhino and Marci keep playing great defense and pick up their serve receive. Byrnes continues to score.
Meanwhile, CSU's passing goes south. Saurer has trouble putting the ball away. Rogers and Downs are still scoring for them, but now the rallies are going Minnesota's way. Game 3 is pretty much all Minnesota. Game 4 is tight, and Minnesota seems to tense up a bit again, but they pull away at 27 all.
It was a good match. A lot of long rallies and a good crowd. But Minnesota can play better and will need to tomorrow night v. USC.
An oddity: KBow has 14 assists and Taatjes 43. I can't figure this one out, not without studying my stats. It didn't seem that lopsided. All I can figure is that KBow, who had 18 digs, had a lot of those digs lead to points off Taatjes sets.
The 6-2 needs some work, but I like it.
I try calling Gorf sometime in game 3. No dice. Later, someone calls me back, says he had a missed call with my number. I had just called Mrs. R, so I'm confused. I don't recognize the caller as Gorf. I apologize. Gorf, was that you?
Mrs. R ain't answering the phone either.
