At the same time that these incredible athletes are playing a barn-burner of a match, NBC is broadcasting...the team finals of rythmic gymnastics!!! Hey look...that skinny chick is twirling a ribbon on a stick! Nice rhyme!

The difference between 6'8" Gamova from RUS and the USA's 6'7" Haneef? Armswing, baby, armswing. Gamova hits those high ball sets at maximum extension, flat, and uses wrist snap to both direct the ball and topspin it into the opponent's court. Does Haneef even know wrist snap? Oh, Haneef doesn't even come close to Gamova!

which Russian player is Jeri Estes marrried/engaged to? Estes is not married to a Russian player. He is married to Karpol's daughter, Nadia!! The couple were interviewed at one of the Grand Prix matches a couple of years ago. She is pretty.

You know the match is live on CNBC, right? The bronze medal match was as well, at least here on the East coast. Yeah, I've been watching it. Just happened to flip over to see what NBC was showing...thanx. It's so hard to root for one team over the other. Both are playing at such a high level. THIS match is what every volleyball fan dreams of seeing.

Feng Kun left no doubt that she's the best setter on the planet. This team was without it's superstar but she got the most out of every player.
A suggestion for a new strategy: After each rally, forget the group hug (like Cuba and Brasil), and go with the Chinese Fire Drill.

A suggestion for a new strategy: After each rally, forget the group hug (like Cuba and Brasil), and go with the Chinese Fire Drill. Agree. The group hug is overrated. The Japanese men do the jog around the court thing as well. Keeps you warmed up and your feet moving, whereas the group hug slows you down and gets other people's sweat all over you. Yuck.

New analogy on the S.A.T.: Gamova is to Haneef, as Sokolova is to Tom
The Russians are a bigger, stronger, steadier version of their American counterparts. I love the way Gamova and Sokolova adjust, gather themselves, and take a rip at the high balls no matter where they are. I hope the USA girls watched the match and study the tapes.

Damn...looking at the stats, China had 5 players with double digit kills and the setter Feng leading all players in blocks. Simply amazing.
