So, just randomly asking, what are your most and least respected occupations/professions/jobs? No need to be too rigid and ask for any objective criteria to judge, just tell me your subjective feelings:
So in a tongue-in-cheek manner, for me:
The Most Respected:
1. Medical Doctors: They cure people of sickness and tend to those who are injured. In short, they can save lives. That I have utmost respect for.
2. Engineers: (civil, mechanical and electrical): They make stuff (and make them work).
3. Architects: A lot of buildings are ugly and mundane or purely functional, but some are quite beautiful and are landmarks. To those architects who built them, I salute them.
4. Airline Pilots: We take it for granted that a plane ride will deliver us to our destinations safely. But we seldom think of those in the cockpit doing the work. Some folks think pilots are no more than "glorified bus drivers" who only need to "push a few buttons" in the cockpit and the plane will just fly itself. I'm afraid that is far from the actual reality. Its not always an easy job for them. Yet 99%+ of the time, they bring us safely to where we want to be.
5. Teachers/Professors/Instructors: People's lives and their choice of profession can sometimes be influenced by the teachers (in school) or professors (in college) they had. Yes, there are bad ones out there, but there are also inspirational ones that motivate you and develop your passion in certain fields.
The Least Respected:
1. Lawyers: What did Shakespeare say? Kill all the Lawyers? I certainly can sympathize with that sentiment even if I do not condone that action. Yes, I know lawyers play a crucial function in our society. A few of them do genuinely believe in justice and right wrongs and protect the downtrodden (my wife is a lawyer after all and I met her in law school). But 99% of the time, lawyers are just a pain the a**. It doesn't help some of them put on airs and act like SOBs that you just want to give a beat down to.
2. Politicians: Its no surprise many lawyers are politicians. And who do we hate apart from lawyers, well that's politicians. Now I suppose there could be some politicians out there that do want to improve society and fight for social justice. But even so, sooner or later, they'll be corrupted by Washington. Its the nature of the job, you have to be two-faced liar and manipulator to succeed. In normal every day life, we call them psychopaths, but in the political world, we call them politicians.
3. Car Salesman: Snake Oil Salesman, need I say more?
4. Insurance Agent: Never liked them much, hating them is too strong a word, but I never much cared for insurance companies who try to weasel their way out from paying the insured one way or the other.
5. Telemarketer: Irritating callers that try to peddle crappy products or services to you. No thank you.
So, what are about you?
