Women : FENG (CHN) wins MVP, CARDULLO (ITA) best libero
ATHENS, 29 August – China’s captain Kun FENG was voted as the Most Valuable Player by the accredited Media at the Athens Olympic Volleyball Tournament.
The 26-year-old Chinese inspirational setter and captain finished the competition as the best setter and fifth best blocker as China collected gold medal in an amazing Gold Medal Match, beating Russia, 3-2 (28-30, 25-27, 25-20, 25-23, 15-12) in over than two hours.
Ekaterina GAMOVA and Lioubov SHASHKOVA, both of Russia, followed FENG.
Paola CARDULLO (ITA) was voted the best libero. The 22-year-old 162 cm libero finished fourth on the best digger rankings averaging 1.86 successfully digs per set.
Italy finished fifth after losing to Cuba at the Quarterfinals by 3-2 (23-25, 25-14, 25-22, 14-25, 12-15).
Stacy SYKORA (USA) and Arlene XAVIER (BRA) followed CARDULLO.
FENG and CARDULLO will be awarded with a special trophy and a diploma by the FIVB.
