According to the Arizona website, Glass has a shoulder injury and will be out for 2-3 weeks. It sounds like she wont be making it to Hawaii's tournament and may also miss their own tournament with Pepperdine. Hopefully she gets better before the Pac10 season starts.

Not only Glass, but it seems that half of the squad is carrying an injury of some sort.

www.collegesports.com/sports/w-volley/stories/083104aad.htmlDave showing how much control he has in Arizona: "I'm not allowed to talk too much about it right now other than it's a shoulder injury," said UA head coach Dave Rubio.A better quote is this from Glass: "I haven't torn anything, it's an impingement. It's going to be irritating and it's just horrible pain," said GlassI had to look up "impingement." I don't understand it though... any help?

An impingement, is a physical condition common to the shoulder where, for some reason(usually injury to the rotator cuff, bone spurs, etc.) the muscles in the shoulder region are rubbing on bone causing major pain, discomfort, and restricted range of motion. In older people, especially men, it is common due to the normal aging process and the fact that the shoulder region is notorious for losing the ability to have good blood circulation with age. In younger people, mainly athletes, the impingement is cause usually by overuse and if not treated appropriately can end up with a torn rotator cuff muscle, which as I can personally attest is NOT a good thing! Hope this helps! And, hopefully hers will heal completely with rest, ice, and good stretching exsercises, which are the usual treatment.

I understand it, now let's see if I can explain it. Basically, her range of motion is being limited by swelling or maybe calcium deposits. It feels like hyperextending your elbow.

My left shoulder had an "impingement" about a year ago. It took MONTHS of rest and a couple months of Celebrex to even get to 80%.... and I'm right handed!

Beachman when you say overuse, could that be 1257 attempts in 2002,or 1584 attempts in 2003 or both.

I have had two major surgeries on one of my shoulders because an "impingement" that was allowed to get too far advanced eventually tore my rotator cuff muscle......two miserable surgeries and two miserable rehabs!
