South Carolina in. Bad news for FIU.
Gotta think that the Gamecocks being 3-0 against FIU was the deciding factor.

South Carolina in. Bad news for FIU. Gotta think that the Gamecocks being 3-0 against FIU was the deciding factor. Rainmaker wins our little East 3 contest! Head to Head is the first tiebreaker, I think. Perhaps they considered RegionRecord a tie (never thought of that). It was very close. Or maybe my SoS estimate was off. Congrats to Gamecocks!

Trollhunter, a little birdie told me that (no one will believe me, but whatever) FIU was simply not going to be picked, lineup manipulation finally had caught up to them, ongoing saga with that team. The powers that be had a chance to prove a point, and did. Not that SCU H2H didn't matter, but in reality it didn't. USC, then the FSU/UH loser, so its 2 and out anyway for SCU, but the point was made.

Wonder how NCAA is going to solve that sandbag problem, their mid-season rule change seems to have made it worse. Wonder why they didn't just enforce existing rules. Make an example of somebody with forfeits and the problem goes away. Instead they broaden rules allowing more sandbagging, seems they don't wanna hurt anyone's feelings. Weak sauce. Whomever won East 3rd spot was doomed with brutal matchup.

SCarolina has played FSU pretty close twice now so I wouldn't be so quick to say they have no chance. It would definitely be an upset but they have nothing to lose and can just go out and have fun. Pressure can do weird things to teams.

I would personally appreciate any additional factual info on FIU and what's going on with them. I appreciate what you'll have shared already.

If you look at the FIU individual 2017 stats / individual records it will become more clear. www.fiusports.com/documents/2017/4/27/2017_Results.pdfScroll to bottom of second page. 5 of their players competed in all 5 different flights (pair #1 - pair #5). 4 of their players competed in 4 of the different flights. 2 of their players competed in 3 of the different flights (this should be considered normal) 2 competed in a single fixed flight all year (only played 25% of time). 2 barely competed at all (1 match and 2 matches). Would be hard to imagine that they "played in order of ability every match", with so much movement. You can look thru the list of matches to see if they followed letter or spirit of lineup movement rules. Although those rules changed midway thru season, I kind of doubt it.

Trollhunter you are the man (or women) thank you.. Saved me, I was going to respond, the weekend in Mia was the biggest culprit fwiw.. A 1 became a 4 in 4 matches, not in the best interest of NCAA Beach Volleyball.. You summed it up in one post. Thanx

Pressure can do weird things to teams. Love the passion, but in reality its 3-0 FSU this year (vs SCU). They did push 3 of the sets to 3 on 3/26, which to me is actually better than 4/22. You can't forget that 4/8 was 5-0, though.. Good luck to SCU, I love upsets, thats why March Madness in BBall is the best.

They've been close on all 3 and it would obviously be an upset but not a shocking one to me.

Hate to say it, but we kind of assumed it, but SCU didn't record a point. Bummer
