From the players handbook online for 2017 :
5.2.2. Competing Tours
Players are prohibited from competing in any beach volleyball event
other than AVP Events unless given written permission by the AVP. All
players must notify the AVP in writing if they wish to participate in a
non-AVP or non-AVP Sanctioned Event. If a player participates in such
Event without approval as set forth herein, a player shall be subject to
fines up to $5,000, suspension and/or expulsion.
Fines are a new twist...

On one hand, makes sense: no pro league wants its players to go play somewhere else during a season. On the other hand, if we want to try and be Yoda and read into the Force: this may be a sigh that the AVP is really, really worried about the future.

Yes, but I hope it seriously isn't that stupid to prevent players from playing FIVB. If that's the case it will deserve it when it goes under. |

Assume the FIVB are AVP-Sanctioned events

The AVP professional players can't go and play for a competitor professional league?
FIVB events are definitely AVP sanctioned. NVL events are definitely NOT AVP sanctioned. Small little local fun events just need written permission?

FIVB is more than likely not considered a "Competing" tour that the clause is discussing.

So 3 "professional" tours, and 0 successful tours where players can actually make a living outside the top 4.
