Does anyone see a possible issue with appearance fees for players that obviously contribute to the TV time and sponsors of a tour? In a sport that is heavily influenced by refs, and their pay check is paid by the tour, I feel like there is an issue when I see the "paid" players get away with a judgement call.

1) I don't. I think the judges and line judges are there to do their best to get the call "right". I don't think in the course of the match there are too many judgement calls overall minus hand setting, which is always open to interpretation. I remember seeing a pretty bad hand set that wasn't called and thinking...eh. Think the ref did a "make-up" call a point or 2 later when there was another so-so set. Personally, I think the judges are there to get the calls right as best they can vs trying to influence a match. 2) being a niche sport that attracts very few viewers to begin with, IF the AVP did want their paid players to getaway with more...just too much of a risk. They would need to approach a ref (that is really not making that much in the grand scheme of things), ask them to throw a match. Hope the ref agrees. IF the ref does not agree...immediately pray that ref does not make public the AVP is trying to match fix as that would be a monster controversy. The HUGE risk for little to no reward plus finding multiple refs that will agree to throw a match AND having little to no $$ to pay off the conspiring refs seems like a stretch.
The sport is not nor probably ever be big enough for anyone other than the sponsoring tour (AVP or NVL or whoever is even running a local tournament) to be the ones to pay for a ref.

It would be hard for a ref to really influence a match that much. It would have to be a net call here, maybe a double there, but they could realistically affect maybe 3 points a match.
Appearance fees usually create the problem, as in tennis, of stars showing up and losing intentionally. I dont think BVB is near that either
