Seriously? Is this guy just making stuff up?
Talking about Sean Rosenthal, "every tournament he enters, the general consensus is that he is one of the top two or three favorites to win."
No, no he isn't, and he hasn't been for years. On the AVP that isn't close to true and on the FIVB its flat Earth level dumb.
The entire Rosenthal section is either incredibly ignorant for someone writing for VBM or simply skewed to serve a preposterous framing device.
His blog post on the Kerri situation and his misstatements of history were equally bad, but even when he is factually correct, the writing is problematic.
"LMU’s Betsi Metter Flint, who played two seasons of beach in college, has already won an event and played in another two finals. Her partner, Kelly Larsen, a two-time All-American on the sand for Pepperdine, didn’t finish outside of ninth throughout the entire 2016 season."
The facts here are true, so better than a lot of the stuff, but deceptive since all the accomplishments listed were achieved as a team.
"LMU’s Betsi Metter Flint, and her partner, Kelly Larsen of Pepperdine, have already won an event and played in another two finals. They didn't finish lower than 9th throughout the entire 2016 season."
Which seems more accurate.
Finally why celebrate finishing 9th or higher. There is only one place lower. Its a 16 team field. Its just made up praise to fit another high school journalism theme. Lets just write, all last year they didn't finish last.
His blog post on the Kerri situation was equally uninformed. Please stop pimping this guy, his writing is not good and he gets facts wrong

Do you ever get tired of being so negative? I am sure those around you do, but do you?
I mean come on, we have someone actually writing about beach volleyball and not in the usual "just the facts" manner but actually putting some thought into it. But you have to rip it apart. Come on, man.

Rosie is the 2nd or third favorite every event is not putting some thought into it, its either failing to do research or being wrong intentionally. Take a look at what he wrote about the Kerri thing. Again simply inaccurate.

To quote Jack from "Sideways," "I thought it was pretty good."

Aside from the "journalism critiques" of Rosie, am I missing something when he took Phil/Nick to 21-19 in game 2 during the finals? I think we all know what 21-19 means, with VERY little change, that game could be 19-21...So help me out, Rosie is healthy and starting to play well, VERY well , ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? ;-)

Often it means a team got to 20-14 or 20-16 and let up. Watching the final there was no point where you thought, "Rosie and Crabb could win this." They were closer to losing to the 11th seed in the qualifier than they were to beating Phil/Nick. Rosie could win again if he got an event, almost like this one, where all the top teams traveled, but in a full field he isn't a threat. He has had a great and interesting career, and he was part of the best team in the world for several years. (Both with Phil and that one year with Jake) However he is in his 18th year, and he has always depended on elite athletic ability, unlike a Hyden for example.
