------------- 2018 National Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship in Gulf Shores Promo video "Eight of the country’s best teams will dig into the white sand beaches of the Alabama Gulf Coast May 4-6." - gulfshores.com Nice to see (just barely) my favorite Hawai'i pairing, but for as consistent, as Hawaii has been since 2016, they barely showed them (you have to look really closely). Mostly USC, UCLA, FSU, and Pepperdine. Come on NCAA a little parity (no disrespect to the teams they showed most). And yes, I realize this was from the 2016 season, but it is the 2018 promo video. Per Cindy Luis, Hawaii's pairs have been set, but flight order has not: Morgan Martin-Laurel Weaver Emily Maglio-Ka’iwi Schucht Carly Kan-Lea Monkhouse Amy Ozee-Ari Homayun Allyssah Fitterer-Hannah Zalopany No. 6 probably Hi’ilawe Huddleston-Paige Dreeuws. Cindy Luis's blog linkI'm surprised that Pani Napoleon, who made a big splash in the preseason, didn't make the top 5 flights. Is she redshirting? These pairings may be changing...

Great get for Cal. I knew she played with Plummer for several World Championships at different age groups. I didn't know where she ended up. She may not have had a lot of formal Beach training with a coach but she has a ton of Beach experience!

Florida State sets high expectations for 2018 season seminoles.com/beach-volleyball-sets-high-expectations-for-2018-season"The phrase National Championship is something the Florida State beach volleyball team isn’t afraid to throw around this season. (…) Although the team is looking forward to its ultimate goal of claiming the championship, right now the Seminoles are just looking forward to getting the season started. (…) The team has no plans to stop talking about that National Championship title." FSU head coach Brooke Niles: "We have one of the longest off-seasons of any sport (…). I think other programs are different in that they just want to get someplace or get a certain amount of wins. We know what we’re capable of. (...) This program is a top team for a reason." (...) Another major addition for the Seminoles this season is volunteer assistant coach Nick Lucena. "It’s kind of surreal having an Olympian on the court with you. He sees things that other people just don’t see," said sophomore Francesca Goncalves.

"Self-taught?" She's been part of USAV's high performance training group since she was in the 8th grade. I don't think Ali, Rico, Loiola, Barb, or Alzina (who have all coached her) would necessarily agree with the self-taught line. Regardless, she's a really good kid, and a very physical player. She has the ability to become a very, very good player at the next level.
