Didn't Washington finish ahead of Arizona last year? And didn't Arizona lose its top pair (Witt sisters)? Arizona @ 9 and UW @ 19? Go figure.

Arizona actually split with UW last season. AZ finished last year ranked 9 and starts this year at the same spot. UW was not ranked top 20 last year and starts this year at 19 which is a positive for the UW program.
The ranking poll doesn’t necessarily look at how one team finishes versus another, but overall strength of a program. AZ loses their 1s team (Witt twins), but other programs lost their 1s as well and it’s also about who is coming in to support the program going forward.
Often times these polls don’t make sense in a one-off analysis. You can see inconsistencies throughout the polls in men’s indoor for instance UCSB beat Pepperdine in Firestone Fieldhouse, but Pepperdine is ranked 10 and UCSB 13. The rankings move slowly and methodically.

No, the Witt’s lost and the 5 court won for AZ. Regardless, I’m not arguing AZ “better” or “UW” better. I was simply addressing your question as to why UW is ranked below AZ in the polls. Has very little to do with how they matched up last year head to head.
