Looks like USC is going to repeat. (Ed: Sorry if this is off the thread topic!) While I would really like this to be the case, I think this particular team might have to endure some growing pains in 2018. It'll be a changing of the guard of sorts, what with Anna losing five very experienced senior starters who have been in the lineup since they arrived on campus. Hughes especially has been the cornerstone of the USC program since she got here in 2014, so I think it will take Collier some time to establish a different type of culture and leadership and perhaps a new direction with so many newcomers. The returning players (Cannon, Dennis, Kremer) and incoming freshmen they have (Hallgren, Slater, Graudina), though, will make that transition a lot easier. Right now I'd put them at #3 to start just because of how many players other schools are returning. However, if they stay at three come NCAAs, they'd be a dangerous matchup for anyone because Collier's teams always seem to be locked in at tourney time. I don't think they're the favorites to win the NC right now at this point, and that might actually be a good thing. I look at USC's 2018 season to be a mix between both a rebuilding and a reloading year, and yet won't be surprised to see them with a legitimate shot at winning the title again and three/(four)-peating in May. If Van Winden had stayed at UCLA, I'd put them as the clear favorites. They'll still be very good, particularly if Mac May comes over from the indoor side. USC is going to lose matches the upcoming season, their NC hopes will depend on how quickly (or not) the kids mature. Something that has flown under the radar, but a major loss for USC is that their assistant the past two years (generally recognized as the top assistant and recruiter in the country - the 2017 class are almost all hers) is no longer there.

Yeah, I was surprised to see Lamberson no longer there but it doesn't appear that she's coaching college at all anymore... maybe she's back to focusing solely on the USA Beach NT? SC replaced her with Gustavo Rocha from Pepperdine, which I thought was a little weird when I first heard about it and presumably a bit awkward considering the Anna/Nina rivalry. But IIRC, he was a volunteer AC there and here he gets the nod as AC, while Dain Blanton remains the volunteer assistant. Weird.
Maybe grooming him to become the next head coach at USC once Anna leaves? Who knows when that will be, but I assume soon... Would he even want it or is he a big enough name to be considered? Or do you go for an even "bigger name" hire, if there are even any out there at all? No clue who would even be in contention for that once Anna retires
