I know for 2017 it was quite complex, but now that it has been a Full Championship for 2 years, I have heard that the winner from each conference will go. How many beach conferences are there, and if not enough will they use last years system to pick a second team from a conference? Or if more conferences than spots, they pick conferences by strength? This must be in reg's somewhere, the championship site holds no info about it, other than it is at gulf shores early May 2018. Thanks for any info.

My understanding is that the criteria will not change - in other words, no auto bids for conference champs.

Last season I heard that conference winners we're getting automatic bids this upcoming season. I have been out of the loop a bit lately so not sure if something has changed. Geddy, have you heard/read something recently about it?

Geddy, have you heard/read something recently about it? This goes back several months, but at the time the feeling among the beach committee was that awarding conference auto bids in an eight team field draw could result in a lopsided field. The thinking was that expanding the field to twelve teams would make it easier to give conference champions an automatic bid while also allowing for multiple at large bids from a strong conference (namely, the Pac 12). The NCAA is on board with a 12 team championship field at some point, but not right now. However, things can change, particularly when we're talking about the NCAA. I haven't heard anything one way or another in the recent past.

But I thought auto bids we're required by NCAA after 2 years... I will have to check legislation. Giving autobids would not have changed bids much over past couple years.

If autobids were used last season, the only change would have been South Carolina being replaced by Stetson in bracket.
Previous years are similar with one change or none.
2017 Beach bids if done with conference autobid:
Univ of Southern Calif = PAC12 Conf bid
Pepperdine = West Coast Conf bid
Florida State = CCSA conf bid
LBSU = Big West conf bid
Stetson = ASUN conf bid
UCLA = At-Large bid #1
Hawaii = At-Large bid #2
LSU = At-Large bid #3

I think that 5 conferences have met the criteria to be eligible for automatic qualification per the rules below from NCAA DI manual:
18.5.2 National Collegiate Championship. [#] To be eligible for automatic qualification into any National Collegiate Championship, a conference shall: (Adopted: 1/9/06 effective 8/1/06) (a) Have at least six active members that sponsor the applicable sport in any division; (b) Meet all applicable requirements for conference automatic qualification into any National Collegiate Championship as set forth in Bylaw 31.3.4.
31.3.4.2 Requirements—National Collegiate Championship. [#] To be eligible for automatic qualification in a National Collegiate Championship, a member conference must meet the following general requirements: (Adopted: 1/9/06 effective 8/1/06) (a) Have at least six active members that sponsor the applicable sport in any division (Note: A provisional member in the process of becoming an NCAA member cannot be used to meet the requisite number.); (b) The six active members must have conducted conference competition together for the preceding two years in the applicable sport; (c) There shall be no waivers of the two-year waiting period; and (d) Any new member added to a conference that is eligible for an automatic bid shall be immediately eligible to represent the conference as the automatic qualifier.

Thanks for the well researched replies! That is what I had heard would happen but it is very hard to find info on it.
