Finally able to listen to the whole thing. Interesting to hear April babble on and on about visualization and meditation and how much mental strength they gave her for the Olympics when to most eyes it looked like she and Kerri choked in the semis against a less talented team.
Also people like April and Tri should not be talking about medicine as if they knew anything. Listening to that homeopathic BS about Tri curing his auto immune disease with the power of positive thinking and listening to April spout outdated garbage about DID made me lose respect for both of them

I must've skipped over some of the Tri stuff. I noticed more in the first April sandcast that he talked too much and tries to relate everything to himself. But the sandcast is still new and he's learning. Maybe I'll have to re-watch, but I thought it was more Kerri shanking serves than April having issues in the semis. Listening to that homeopathic BS about Tri curing his auto immune disease with the power of positive thinking and listening to April spout outdated garbage about DID made me lose respect for both of them I think I mentioned this in the Tri episode thread, but it really sounds like he's made very little progress over the past year using traditional medicine, so I can't really say I blame him for looking into alternative treatments. But I agree, he does come across as a bit delusional here when it really sounds like an extremely long shot he'll ever play anywhere near that level again. With April, I think she's starting to come to the realization that at age 35 she'll never be as powerful or explosive physically as she was 5-10 years ago and is looking for other ways to keep sharp. She did mention having some shoulder problems, which I don't remember hearing about before. I just hope she will be smart about her training going forward, especially playing with a much younger partner, and not be afraid to give herself a rest when she starts breaking down physically.

But the sandcast is still new and he's learning. I was going to say the same thing about Tri relating everything to himself, but then I read Travis's post about how he wants the podcast to be more conversational than a traditional interview. My personal opinion is that I'd like the Sandcast to be more like an interview and not go off on so many tangents. But maybe that would be difficult with both hosts also being players who already have personal friendships with most of the guests. In some ways, the Sandcast feels a lot like the Coach Your Brains Out podcast, which is also rather conversational and mostly involves players discussing training techniques with each other.

I also listened to the podcast for the first time. Overall, I think having more outlets for people to hear from those in the pro beach volleyball world, the better as there is certainly limited opportunity with the mainstream media ignoring the sport much of the time and not everyone lives in the Mecca of Beach Volleyball. In all these cases (sandcast, coach your brains out, NET Live come to mind) it's ultimately labors of love by those who organize so I send my appreciation to those folks.
There was a little talk in the April conversation about the business side of the sport and how an injection of money similar to what was done for MMA could really make the sport explode. With all the ups/downs of the sport over the years, it seems like a never reaching goal for the sport and proven to be harder than imagined. I wonder if a similar candid conversation with Donald Sun and others on the business side of sport could be planned with sandcast? Any articles written on this topic always seem to be woefully short on specifics on how anyone really plans to grow the sport at the pro level domestically.
