Wow. Gilbert is off the roster. I didn't notice. That is depressing. This follows what I mentioned a few pages ago. Texas seems to have this "cadence" where junior walk-on DSes decide mid-junior year to forgo their senior year. I don't know if the coaches have a sit down talk with them and tell them something? Or, they see the path others have taken and start thinking that way? Or they're just tired of trying to juggle school with sports and decide to look towards the future. I'm not saying coaches are telling them to get lost, but I'm curious why it's happening more often.

I'm not saying coaches are telling them to get lost, but I'm curious why it's happening more often. I think all three are a definite possibility, but I think that there is attrition between junior and senior year for many teams across many sports. The real world starts looming, internships/shadows and extra classes become more important than they were previously, and suddenly there isn't enough time in the day. For SAs who do not expect to play and do not have a financial incentive to stay, it may make sense to focus those hours elsewhere and cherish the time you had with your team while shifting priorities towards the next step. It happens a lot in the mid-majors, but the job market is increasingly competitive so I think it has started to permeate the power conferences. Gilbert played a great role this season, and is a wonderful person with great plans for her future. I wish her the best of luck!

Was the offense to the middles that slow this year? Looks like you're a Gator fan. What do you think? I heard from many that thought the fast offense was not there. Personally, I observed a faster offense being run to the middle this year with Chiaka and out of the back row as well. I may have had an advantage of watching Mr. Elliott work with the setters practicing fast opportunities. What some thought as being bad sets to the outside hitters was at times intentional low sets to get to the hitters quickly. The success of a faster game is reliant upon good passing to the setter. That was not consistent. Texas needed a Caroline Knop. By the way, have been a huge Mary Wise fan forever. Personally, I think the tempo to the middles was where it needed to be this year. The tempo to the pins however (specifically the opposite) wasn't as fast as I'm use to seeing. I think that's on the setter. Now that's not me bashing Shook. It surprises me how people on here have gone after her when she makes mistakes or is slightly imperfect. The expectations that were mounted on her as a freshman were a bit much but that comes with the Texas territory. The offense was probably slowed down a bit because she sometimes struggled with her location. This off-season will do great things for her and I believe we'll see much more improved play at Nebraska next year. Passing will certainly be interesting though. But I feel like that's the conversation every year for Texas and they end up being just fine. White took a huge leap forward in her passing this year; if Sun does the same, Texas will be much better off. Do you think Orie will change positions to a reserve pin hitter?
I love Mary as well. I'm hoping that national championship is right around the corner for her. She's invested so much into the program and the players for such a long time (not that other coaches haven't for their respective programs). But you don't deserve it until you win it and I hope that happens sooner than later.

Shook is in Ebony’s instagram story in one of their dorm rooms so we can squash that rumor.

Watching Orie in pre-game warm-ups, I've always thought her arm swing was slow for a middle attacker. Plus, she hasn't been a very consistent blocker...just seems a tad slow in reading where the set is going to go. I would like to see her train on the right pin backing up Yaazie, especially with Asjia O'Neal and Blair Westerlund providing MB depth to Morgan and Brionne. We need another pin hitter to spell Micaya, Lexi, and Yaazie next year.

We need another pin hitter to spell Micaya, Lexi, and Yaazie next year. Why is it so difficult for them to spell their names?

Could it possibly be her reading all of the crap many of you have said on this thread about her? Maybe just letting everybody know that these ridiculous judgements of an 18\19 year old young woman is not going to define her! .....just throwin' it out there!

I hope Lexi, and every other player in high D1, has the good sense to avoid VT like the plague. Ebony learned that the hard way. Hopefully she can share that wisdom with her teammates, but it is probably something each player has to figure out for herself. It has to be a shock for most high end recruits to be fawned over all through high school and lauded for their potential and excused for their limitations, and then to get thrown to the wolves.

Does Texas really need Lexi Sun?? Only if they want to win. Otherwise, no, of course not.

You do realize that is an inspirational quote and not something she said or wrote, right? And that she is using it to inspire herself to ignore and push passed people like you?
