So is this girl playing for Texas or not? I don’t see why you would waste a scholarship on a backup OH when we so clearly need better ball control. And as good as Petersen has looked, it’s not great to count on freshman ball control, especially with an already weak ball control team. Unless Ifeanyichukwu can pass half the court it doesn’t make sense to bring her in on scholarship. and what happens if Sun or White gets hurt? You all will need another pin. 3 pins won’t cut it in case of injury. But that’s not our need. I’d rather have to rely on Agbaji (who has OH experience) as a backup OH and upgrade our ball control than use it on someone who may never see the court.

Jeritt in Honolulu this weekend for combine. Word is he’s there to watch 2020 lib/outside recruit Keonilei Akana from Kamehameha. Best passing and backrow D in the state, IMO.

Interesting, at this past weekends SCVA MLK tournament volley gossip amoungst the parents was Mizuno Long Beach 16 rockstar libero (younger sister of UH Setter Norene Iosia) getting full ride offer from Elliot and Texas....also heavily being recruited by Washington, Oregon, LBSU and Nebraska. Good luck Long Horns she’s a stud!

That might be an interesting discussion, especially with Robyn and Angelica at the table. Keonilei would not be the first big time player from Kamehameha that landed at UH. Ohana often plays a big role in Hawaii volleyball. Considering that the Wahine drew 121,523 fans last year in a rebuilding year would make it hard to classify them as a small time program. Then the men's program, that sold more tickets than any other team for 3 straight years, helps keep the state in a volleyball frame of mind. Women as head volleyball coaches may be trending. It could be a mistake to underestimate what Robyn and Angelica can do. Both of them are legendary icons. Maybe they will send coach Shoji over to have a talk with Keonilei. She's old enough to remember him. One thing I am almost certain of is that Mr. Elliott did not mention what the weather was like in Austin.

UT has already recruited great defensive players .... the problem is they are not developed.

That was all kind of a mess. I feel like that had to end up being pretty embarrassing for the kid.

UT has already recruited great defensive players .... the problem is they are not developed. I remember watching Cat McCoy when she was in her last year at TAV. She picked up everything on her side of the court. Also watched Olivia Zelon and Mary Lake during the years. The two best liberos in SCVA. Mary went on and is still playing her game. Olivia played with so much fire and was a fan favorite. She made you want to get on the court and play with her. Even standing on the sidelines all season she made it look fun.

I advocated from mid season that Texas use the depth they were blessed with. The failure to use Olivia may have been Mr. Elliott's greatest folly. Had Olivia not been such a joy to watch on the sidelines, I would have felt cheated. Thank you Olivia! Best wishes for your future.

I think it’d be awesome if he offered 2 elite liberos. Who cares if they’re in the same class! I honestly expected that we would offer 2019 Huong (sp?) from TAV as I’ve heard she’s a pretty great defensive player and there’s that connection, but she is still uncommitted. Anyone know what she is leaning toward?
