Would be interesting if NBC knows about this. What do you take, NBC's eyeballs on an Saturday/Sunday afternoon or Amazon Prime Access available anytime exposure? Amazon will not be able to give the sport the one time live broadcast audience that comes with being a major network but long term the Amazon partnership could eventually lead to a more sustaining viewership.
I also got an email that said they will show main draw matches and one final. So probably the gender that will not be on NBC will be on prime. All matches will be archived and available afterwards.
Good deal. This will broaden the audience with prime members that would otherwise never think to go to the AVP site.
So... in other words we need Prime subscription to watch any matches starting from 2018?
Sure sounds like it to me. Also sounds like a business-to-business deal with little consideration for the fans. Does forcing everyone to pay at least $8.99/month for Prime Video so to watch beach volleyball matches really going to expand the viewership? Mostly it's just the diehards who know or look for the live streaming in the past so maybe they'll pay for it but those diehards who encourage friends to watch may have a hard time getting their friends to engage. I recall some talk of having tiers of live streaming which is perhaps where this deal is coming from but having some degree of free streaming would be nice. Or maybe it's some relatively cheap package that covers entire season (say $20). Maybe this is a precursor to charging general admission to events which I've always thought makes sense. It's a reasonable expectation when going to any other sporting event.
That aside, I have hard time seeing the AVP getting much revenue out of this streaming deal either. Ultimate winner (although a very small drop in the bucket) seems like Amazon.... like they need the help.

This is awesome news and I think a lot of people would be shocked how many people actually have and use Amazon Prime already, I have had Prime for a couple years now and use it all the time. This is just another plus to having the subscription, especially if you order from Amazon often, as well as the other partnerships you wouldn't know about by having a Prime account.
Will the Q matches be streamed in this deal as well right away next year or just every match during the MD?

True, if you’re persuading friends to watch, they’re not going to want to pay to watch livestream! Honestly, I don’t either... this only expands viewers if they’re already paying for Amazon Prime and those diehard fans who are willing to pay.

I can't believe people DON'T have a prime account. best money spent.

I wonder if live stream quality improves, and will there be announcers for all the matches? My guess is live stream improves. Not sure about announcers as they'd probably need to get paid.

Not absolutely sure, but the feeling was that the AVP paid to be on NBC. Which is probably a big part of their expenses.
I'm really hoping they'll stream all day Fri and Sat with more than 1 court option, but I'm thinking that might be a lot to ask. It would be even better if they could stream some of the Q matches as well.
It'll really be a let down if they end up only streaming Stadium Court...
In the statement from the AVP it does say that there will be amazon prime coverage and additional live AVP coverage. That leads me to believe that the avp will still do the qualifier coverage with the rest of the days covered. I think this will help could even turn into a bigger deal long term with all of the cord cutting people are doing these days. In my mind amazon prime just got even better
