Does anyone know if Lynn/USC has given a time frame for when the new coach will be announced? I wonder if we are going to see any transfers or de-commits. hope not. I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see a transfer or two, as I've heard random crap in PM's, but nothing detrimental to the team for next year. the 2018 class already signed their contracts so at the point sans a NCAA appeal, they'd lose a year of eligibility if they don't have releases from the school or go to another Pac-12 school (though the institution SHOULD show them mercy). 2019 and on is fair game though. I brought up a couple months ago about Owes. Not sure if it had any legs to it, but we'll see. The larger issue is that most competitive programs already have 2018 allocated and are working on wrapping up 2019. I forget what is fact, and what is just poster opinions. If Mick knew for months prior to the season that his contract was not going to be renewed, then he failed to disclose very important information to the 2018 signees who signed LOIs in November. If that is accurate, there should be zero issues with any of them getting official releases, if that is their choice.

Someone posted 1/15 as the target date for announcing the hire to the team. That seems reasonable given context of Stanford's time table and Holiday Season. But don't be surprised if your hear rumors and/or coaches from other institutions spotted at the airport or on campus.

Someone posted 1/15 as the target date for announcing the hire to the team. Who posted this? Nicole Davis? Mick Haley? Jerritt Elliott? It was here on VT on one of the many USC/Mick threads.

Here's what Haley said in the VolleyballMag.com interview: That last quote from Mick could be him completely misreading the situation. Could be that the decision to non-renew had already been made last Spring (and Swann didn't have the guts to tell him then), and that a successful 2017 season would have no bearing on that decision.

“We’ll pursue this (legally), but I’m moving on. I either have to find someone who would like to have me coach their program or I have to do something else wth my life. I’m not sitting around and I’m not going to get old,” Haley said with a laugh."
sounds like Mick is the one with age issues.

I'll bet a video of Hitler's reaction to his firing will be posted before USC hires a replacement.

“He’s felt somewhat harassed there and felt for some time that he was being treated poorly because of his age,” Ludmer said, citing comments by athletic department officials that mentioned Haley was “in the quote-on-quote twilight of his career.”
If that's the best they got to release publicly re "harassment based on age", on a 17 year tenure, 74 year old coach following a season of the retirements of people like Dunning, Shoji, and Brian G., they don't have a case. This is all about milking money from a settlement. Someone pull up footage of Mick and a Ref in pretty much any volleyball match prior to 2015...does this look like a man easily harassed by Donna Heinel? I don't think so.

Mick will be great announcer for mens and womens volleyball on ESPN. ESPN just canned all their older talent.

Also, employers ARE allowed to consider succession planning in the context of older employees without it being age discrimination - courts have consistently ruled so. Just that the administration was looking into what they would do IF Mick retired is not nearly enough make a valid discrimination claim. And when the admin gets into all the other things that complicated the relationship with Mick... well.....

It's difficult to read your post. It's all the same color and too small.

All those "people die right after retiring" studies are flawed because they can't control for why people retire. A lot of people keep working until they are just not healthy enough to do it anymore, and many die relatively soon after. On the other hand, I know a lot of people who got really wealthy in the 90s dot-com boom and "retired" in their 30s or even late 20s. None of the ones I know have died yet, and it's been decades. (Most of them went on to do other things besides just ski and hike and kayak; typically things where they had more control and fewer deadlines. But some of them just ski and hike and kayak.)
