Waited two weeks for this, so I definitely enjoyed every second of this episode!
Phil is still very humble, as he says, he’s still trying to be better, still trying to be a better blocker at the net. And he gives Nick credit for taking on almost every single serve. Go Big Phil!
I guess moving to Florida would be beneficial and thoughtful for Nick as he’s been the one traveling to the West Coast the entire last season so he could spend more time with his family. That way Phil and Nick could alternate weeks of traveling to each other AND train with Ricardo, the legend who Phil looks up to.
Most memorable match— I’m surprised he picked the gold medal match in Moscow as I thought it would be the quarterfinals in the Hamburg World Tour Finals, down a set and down 15-19 in the second set, but somehow strung together a bunch of points to take it to three and that gave them momentum going to the semi-finals and finals.
Was a bit bummed that Phil and Nick wouldn’t be playing in The Hague in January, but after listening to the podcast, I understand why now— they haven’t trained enough yet plus, he’s got to close the house and move his family across the country.
Laughed at the part where he said he and Nick are like brothers who fight over every stupid thing including— who showers first after a match. And also that his wife bailed on his Instagram but I respect him for his privacy. He’s an athlete, not a celebrity.
Will definitely continue rooting for Phil and Nick!
By the way, is there an Olympics or USAV training center in Florida? I know there’s a weights center/facility that some of the players go to in California as in the Instagram post.
