The Iowa state win was big for you guys! You are correct: big in so many ways! That was the type of win we just could not get last year and that kept us out of the tourney. Now, the Hawks need to keep the focus today against two more tough teams in Wyoming and Syracuse. But, this one was mighty sweet, indeed!

With Iowa improving, and with Bre Payton on the Iowa staff, maybe UNI and Iowa could set up a midweek home-and-home similar to what UNI and Iowa State have. That'd be fun for fans, at least.
Don't know how it factors into the strategic scheduling of both schools though. Bobbi usually looks for good RPI-boosting opponents to offset some of the anchors on the Valley schedule, while I'm guessing Bond likes easier non-conference wins to offset the tough Big Ten slate.

Way to go, Hawks!! Nice win against tough Wyoming team. Let's stay focused for tonight's match against Syracuse. Our OHs had quite a match with 19 kills for both Hoye and Louis. Good to see Wing getting some floor time as well.

I would agree that a UNI vs Iowa match would be very fun. Not sure I would agree, though, with your take on Bond scheduling easier non-conference teams. This year and the past ones would indicate differently to me.

I’d love to see an all Iowa Tournament with rotated hosts, with UofI, UNI, ISU and Drake! And that Wyoming win was huge! Probably as big as ISU... (Just not as big as the rivalry win tho!! ;-)

This year and the past ones would indicate differently to me. My apologies, I hadn't been playing close enough attention to the Iowa schedules of late. Upon further review, they've definitely improved their scheduling. (as opposed to Iowa MBB, who is too scared to play decent non-conference opponents, even at neutral sites) I’d love to see an all Iowa Tournament with rotated hosts, with UofI, UNI, ISU and Drake! And that Wyoming win was huge! Probably as big as ISU... (Just not as big as the rivalry win tho!! ;-) I doubt UNI would go for such a tournament, as they aren't going to play Drake a third (possibly fourth) time in a season. Plus the alternating UNI/Iowa State home-and-home draws quite well for both schools, and doesn't cost a full weekend of non-conference play.

Ehhh I mean we have some cream puffs but I wouldn’t consider Iowa State, Wyoming, Lipscomb, Washington, and Colorado “easy” for us... maybe for other schools but those are still fairly tough outings, and for everyone outside the Top 25 probably decently difficult enough.

There are worthwhile, manageable hangovers. This morning's was one. Enjoyed last evening. Keep it up Hawkeyes!!

One more to go tonight and it’s also going to be a tough one. I’m sure ISU & Wyoming have taken a lot out of us. Syracuse beat Wyoming, took USC to 5, and took a set from Marquette. A 3-0 weekend would be absolutely HUGE for our chances of making the tournament this season.

And we did it! We escaped Ames with a 3-0 weekend! Damn... that’s almost more than we could’ve dreamed of. Obviously it was always possible but man that’s a great sign. There’s a LOT to think about heading into B1G play but it looks possible that we may have set ourselves for a potential post-season berth with just a couple swing matches going our way!

Also, shout to Cali Hoye... 58 kills on the weekend to score 4.46 per set! I know we joke about that OH2 carousel sometimes, it certainly stopped at the right workhorse this weekend!

Nice win Hawks!!!
I thought the Cuse was going to be the least difficult team this weekend, but obviously that wasn’t the case. Looking at their schedule, they’ve only lost to very solid top 25 ranked teams. Obviously a tough opponent but this weekend belonged to the Hawks! #HawkeyeState
