I'm surprised by the Pepperdine loss, but its too early to write them off. Congrats to CP for being ready to play. Looking forward to seeing what happens with Hawaii and UCLA later today.

Dilfer/Ferrari (PEPP) - 21-18, 21-19 www.pepperdinewaves.com/sports/w-svolley/recaps/022318aad.htmlCal Poly Mustangs: "Down goes #2! #14 Cal Poly defeats #2 Pepperdine to pick up their second win of the day!" - @cpmustangs http://instagr.am/p/BfkfIufHQHg These Pep teams are beyond surprising all the way to shocking! IMO not the best use of a solid Pep player roster. Weird! I also thought the Pepperdine lineups were a little interesting? I expected a different lineup.

FR Bauer on 1? I know she has potential but I would put her on 4 or 5 where she can get experience and be successful, maybe with another freshman like Gavin or if you think she needs experience next to SR Dilfer. Dyer can win at 1s or 2s so what about her and Caputo on 1 or 2. I know Katie Bailey has had serve receive issues but pair her up with ball control and I’m sure she can win at 5s! The way these athletes were paired and some not utilized at all is pretty crazy IMO.

Give it a few matches for adjustments to be made, then lets see if CP is that good, or Pepp isn't

There will be plenty of 3-2 or 2-3 matches throughout this season for many as the tide is rising with dedicated beach athletes.
I’ll take TR over Marcio any day of the year.
I can just see the Pep parents now, they all know best what their lineup should be.... ppp.
I like LSU to roll over some teams this year.

I'm not a Pepp parent but was a little surprised at the lineup. That doesn't mean I don't think Pepp is a good team though! They did make some adjustments in another match, but just in the order.

No Pepp parent here either and regardless of what adjustments Pepp coaching staff makes, still will argue it was an odd place to start. Cal Poly is no fluke and there is a reason they called TR the professor all these years! Besides Cal Poly even has a couple 5th years who are out due to an NCAA violation, but will return and add more strength to the lineup. BTW USC did too but Anna Collier pulled some strings and got her players reinstated while the others are still waiting.
Think Pepp was overly confident. Didn’t even participate in pre-season. I’m sure they’ll be competitive but not like last year IMO.

I’m not sure if all the schools with violations had the same violation, but some 5th years signed contracts to play professionally (after school concludes) which is an NCAA violation.

It's been an interesting start to the 2018 season. Still a long way to go! There does seem to be more parity overall this season.
I believe USC, Pepperdine, UCLA, Hawaii, and FSU will again be in the mix. LSU and Cal Poly are also looking strong.
Even with Hawaii's 5-0 win over UCLA, the match still could have gone either way because most matches were tightly contested. I think consistency will be important as well as having key players stay healthy and in the lineup. Coaching will also play a big factor.
USC will, of course, look very different once Graudina is back in the lineup. Muno for UCLA can also make a difference. Cal Poly was also missing a few players.
I am looking forward to seeing Long Beach State in action as well!
This season may not have any clear favourites! Who wants it the most could be the difference maker.

I think its going to be a very competitive season, and that's good for the sport. No school will go undefeated, and I think there will be a lot of close, 3-2 decisions. May the best team win.

Apparently, the forecast for Saturday is rain w/ thunder and lightning. It turned out to be a bright, sunny day -- almost scorching at times. Definitely no rain or thunder or lightning.
