This is the perfect time of the year to post to this thread.
Notice how at the start of each new year exercise equipment, weight loss programs, and gym membership adds are running non stop on your cable channels? The idea is capitalize on millions of people who made a New Year's resolution to lose weight, firm/tone up their bodies, get more exercise, etc. As a service to the public I need to remind the vast majority of you in about one week your resolution will be the dust bin of unfulfilled resolutions, i.e, out the window, because you didn't have the discipline to keep your body in shape in the first place.
Instead of thinking in terms of resolutions, think lifetime habits. Eat smaller portions, don't fill your freezer with Hagen Dazs, take the stairs, take 15 minute brisk walks, do some low impact stretching exercises each morning, lift some small weights, limit sugar intake (but don't completely eliminate otherwise you'll binge), try to eat some vegetables and fruit every day, limit alcohol/tobacco/legal drug consumption, etc. Most of these steps aren't that difficult and are more easily accomplished than forcing yourself to use your Total Gym 30 minutes a day.

It's raining now. That means: time to go for a run. I also have a coupon to a burrito joint so I'm going to eat a burrito immediately afterwards. No shower. In a gentle rain and warmer weather, nothing beats running in the rain. No lightening though. I don't do lightning.

Sounds crazy?
I ran 4 miles yesterday as part of my exercise regimen. Today, I had to get my car repaired at the dealer. It's 8 miles away. They drove me home and said they could pick me up once repairs were done. I thought about it and said, "I'll find my own way back here." My solution: Run 8 miles in the rain to pick up my car.
So, the dealer called me. I'm now headed out for my 8 mile run.
WooHoo!

You should have had them pick you up at the burrito place after your run.

I typed a lot of words today, maybe 10,000 key strokes. I wonder how many calories I burned?

Time to lift weights. I'm kind of dreading it but as you age, it's important to work on strength, flexibility, and range of motion.

It's 48F outside and kind of chilly if the breeze hits you. However, the sun is out and when the rays hit you, it's warm. I'm torn on whether I should run outside or stay indoors and lift weights and do f***in' burpees. Of all the things I'm the most indecisive about is whether to exercise outdoors or indoors when the weather is equally cold and warm. Some days, I'm just paralyzed by the indecision and I go to 2PM without any lunch.

Well, I ran and surprisingly, there was no breeze. Just sun. I also wore a hoodie and a running jacket. In the last half, I took off my hoodie and soaked in the sun.

I'm driving to Palo Alto and the Stanford Hills (the Dish) and going for a run around the entire preserve.
See ya, losers!

I'll be driving over to the Stanford campus today ... if I see you I'll try not to run you over. I don't know what you look like, but I know you have AARP potential.
