Can someone explain to me Minnesota, I do believe they are talented but they have a lot of question marks I know they return Hart, SSS and Samedy but the backcourt has holes. The middle and the L2 are stilll questions? Is their ranking based on Hughs great coaching ability or the fact people believe them to have matured. Just wondering cause their ranking is high.

I voted them high because they have CC McGraw poised to step in at bro and Claire Sheehan, transfer from Iowa, who can play OH. Middle is still a question, but SSS is a stud and Samedy is a force. She’s lethal. I’m not worried about them. Or rather, as a Badger fan, I AM worried.

They have arguably the best setter, OH, middle combination in the country. With SSS mixing it up and ability to attack from everywhere on every rotation, there just aren't many questions at all. And CC McGraw is the real deal.

I also think that they kind of plateaued in early November last year. Never really looked incredibly comfortable on the floor for the last part of the season.

Between McGraw, Barnes, and Rollins I believe the Gophers will have one of the top backcourts in the country this year. SSS has supposedly taken her defense to a higher level in the offseason too.

For what it's worth, I came across some betting odds to win the National Championship:
3/1 Stanford 5/1 Texas 7/1 Nebraska, Wisconsin 10/1 Kentucky, Florida, Penn State 12/1 BYU, Minnesota 15/1 Illinois, Oregon, USC 25/1 UCLA 30/1 Washington 33/1 Michigan 40/1 Colorado 50/1 North Carolina, Cal Poly, Purdue 60/1 Creighton

Just wondering cause their ranking is high. 1) CC McGraw will be one of the top Libero's in conference. 2) Taylor Morgan will be the most athletic middle in conference. 3) And the L2 will be improved either through transfer Sheehan, new recruit Rollins, or Martin being in 2nd year) Of the top teams in BIG Minnesota has the least amount of question marks.

All the perceived talent in the world doesn't matter if you don't have the heart to go with it. That is why Minnesota was 9th in my poll. My last memory of the Golden Gophers is them getting swept in the sweet 16 by USC. A bunch of less talented teams are out there with more heart, more grit. Give me those teams, they are winners.

What is your recommendation? Do what you think is right. You are the one doing all the work. Absolutely bigfan. Further I would set one policy for the year, forgetting about the 4 odd weeks of preseason and go with it. That way we will all know what is and is not included without referring to special rules.

That's Wahine, haole (Please look that one up, stoopid haole!). PS: Mr. "weird-creepy" (Their comments, Years ago): 'kool-aid' was routinely spiked WAY before Jonestown. Did you just like your own post? Cool!

I think the the last few posts re Minnesota is exactly the problem with these polls. We just don't come from the same criteria. I went into it with a very simple starting foundation: to start the season, I.e. week 1, if Team A played Team B 5 times, who wins 3 or more? It wasn't who will be great by the end of the season, or even who would win 4 weeks into the season, it's who are the 25 best teams to start the season. IMO, there is just no way I could argue that in week 1 Minnesota will have one of the best backcourts in the country when it's comprised of a part time DS and two true freshmen who have yet to play a single collegiate match.
I really think people tend to underrate the jump from prep to high level D1 volleyball in these top conferences. There are very few freshmen year in and year out that come in and can actually hold floor in the backcourt. Plenty of them try, but that doesn't mean they are great at it in the beginning.
