Hawaii looks great and they are clearly one of the teams that has found their identity and essential lineup early and hit the ground running. Congrats and I'm sure fans, the parents and coaches are excited.....and well they should be. USC is a very good team. I predict they will vie for the MPSF title. The Brazilian OH is the key to its offense. Watching him play last night, you could tell he is skilled in all phases. Hawai'i last night was just to fast for USC. But USC will not see as fast of an offense with most of the MPSF. Set 2, USC put some defensive pressure on us, which resulted in a close battle. Hawai'i has to tighten up some loose ends like our middles being more consistent. But it's fixable. Imua Bows!!! You're hella high, USC is out in the mpsf quarters

They had some untimely service and attack errors last night, and Hawaii's service pressure bothered them. But, like Grasso their emotional leader, they can be streaky good or bad. They should progress, if they do they'll wind up ranked.

Interesting comment made by Chris McLaughlin on the need to set the middles more referencing that only about 15% of joes sets are to the middle blockers during the tournament. He emphatically underscored the need and goal to have a more balanced offense and not be so overly dependent on our pin production. I agree with these comments. In the match, our middles hitting efficiency is off (Gasman more than Solbrig) maybe due to diminished set counts. Gasman can’t get the timing down cause he’s not getting enough sets. We need to integrate our middles more into this quicker offense so that teams like UCI don’t end up camping on our pins

Reading about their behavior last night shows that nothing has changed.

Some variation of Pepperdine, BYU, Stanford and UCLA will be the top 4. I’d say USC 5th and then Concordia and GCU are battling for 6th. We'll see.

Hawai'i this season is all about the outsides. Joe has to keep doing what he is doing. The middles are going to do what they can. I've always seen Gasman as the middle blocker and Solbrig as the middle hitter as far as strengths go. If Wade can get a few more points from their weaknesses, it would help preserve the oh's.

Maybe UH will show Stanford that our middles are average on tape and then on Feb when we play them, the middles will be more effective. No???

You know, at this moment in the game, you could have a well-balanced attack and still lose. And like other teams, you could have one maybe two killers and win a national championship. First, you have to get into the final four. How you get it is not as important. Every team has a weakness really. It's whether or not that weakness is greater than your strengths. I mean who wouldn't want the fastest, tallest, highest jumping, lights-out blocking, attacking middles.

I've been watching some UH men's vb on youtube and I have some comments and questions:
1. Associate Head Coach Milan Zarkovic seems to be a likable and passionate guy. He greets each starter with a tremendous hug during introductions -- like every year. I thought that maybe after his son graduated from UH, he would move on but he seems to be a staple.
2. Why do the guys do a chest bump after almost every good play? That must hurt.
3. Why do brothers Joe and Gage not look alike?
4. Someone mentioned that Hawaii didn't schedule UCLA because of some "bad blood" arising from the transfer of Rattray and Matautia from UH to UCLA. They may be tremendous role/practice players (in the case of Matautia, sometime starter) but if there's little chance of seeing the court, I'd think that Wade and co. would be happy for them personally to pursue possible starting opportunities somewhere else.
5. Do you think Joe Worsley offers setting advice to Norene Iosia? Or is something like that frowned upon by RAMS?
6. I'm always amazed the more fingers aren't broken during block attempts.

It keeps him young 2. To be different from the Wahines 3. Different mother? 4. Agreed they should go where they can play 5. He did but only if he agreed to be her MMA sparring partner 6. Mind over matter, if you can’t feel it, it’s not broken

It's more of bad blood between the UCLA and Hawaii coaching staff, there's a lot of speculation that UCLA was recruiting Hawaiis bench during the season which would be directly illegal
