Riley Wagoner is the hope we all need, a much better version of Granato. Just from film she already looks 10x better I will take Granato right now. Playing high school and club is not equal to D1. Lets all remind ourselves that!

Lets all remind ourselves that! I would as well. Granato is a college senior and Wagoner is still in high school. Just wish Granato could be consistent for a change. She’s got a great arm but it’s always a step forward, and a step back with her.

She gets so many out of system, all over the place sets... does pretty good with what she gets. She had a double, double in both games along with receiving majority of the serves tonight. Granato needs help!!! All the other hitters from years past had a good supporting cast. The ball could be moved around. This year I dont see who that will be. Tonight it was Iosia. She and Iosia are complete players. Ma'afala is a great player also. Na Wahine need the middles to produce. There was no block the past 2 nights. Often only the OH/OPP was up to block. No middle in sight. The defense was getting blasted. As for Robyn vs. Dave... most of these young ladies are Dave/Jeff Halls recruits. Other than the 3 transfers and a walk on freshman. So Robyn is doing the best she can with what she was given. For you "faithful" Wahine fan bloggers that give up already- you can leave like lame Lane did.

Guess the shoe is on the other foot now. You, BIK, blaming Robyn for how the Wahine are playing, and me, giving Robyn the benefit of the doubt. Believing she is doing the best she can. Shut it, Yvonne. Make yourself useful in front of the sink with those dishes. Oh BIK you too much braddah! Hahahaha

Rename this the Goldilocks thread. Some of you are too pessimistic, and some of you are too optimistic. On the bright side, Hawai'i hasn't fallen as low as Long Beach. lol However, this is not Robyn's first year. The lack of improvement by returning players and lack of any transfer help is a failure in recruiting, evaluation and/or training. Robyn is not a saleswoman. She's not going to b.s. top recruits into coming to Hawai'i. They're going to come because they believe she can make them good players and can win matches. Neither one of those scenarios is shaping up yet. If Robyn isn't comfortable with the schmoozy part of recruiting, I think she needs to consider adding a really good, personable coach primarily responsible for recruiting to her staff. Wait till you see the recruits she will be bring in next year. You will be eating your words. She has 4 excellent recruits committed for next year. She has not stopped recruiting for next yet, also. She still has scholarships to offer. She also has 2 excellent recruits committed for 2020. Robyn knew there were not any outstanding players left for this year, and she just did not want to waste a scholarship on just a so, so player. She wanted to reserve the scholarship(s) for a 2019 recruit who could be a game changer. I think Robyn is a big part in why we are not winning. I'm not convinced that she's getting the most out of each player, nor establishing a system that works for the talent she has. Yes, we all know she doesn't have as much talent as UH normally fields, but IMO she should have had better preparation, and a better gameplan than what she offered this weekend. Yes, the players are at fault too, but I agree with BIK that she is to blame as well. Disappointed that she blames the players in her interview with the media. Would've been nice to see her take some ownership and say that perhaps she and her staff could've prepared them better...she doesn't seem to have much patience for this group of girls. Well, like it or not, this IS her team and she needs to make it work.

I would love to compare Shoji during his second season as a head coach vs. RAMS in her second season re. the way they handled the media. Or, even Shoji at age 42 (1988) vs. RAMS at 42 (her current age).
I wonder if they handled the media the same way at roughly the same stage in their respective careers. Or was Shoji always poised. I suspect Shoji had a bit of a temper and wasn't afraid to show it when responding to reporter's questions. I also wonder if Shoji blamed his players during those times (either second season as head coach or in 1988 at age 42, same age as RAMS). You have to give RAMS some latitude. She's learning on the job, not just coaching but also how to handle the media. She'll eventually get it. I look back at my own career (not as a head coach) and in my second year, I was still learning.

Why plays the blaming game...STOP!. I am looking forward to next season already, lol... I was hyped about this years team, but watching the game on Saturday, gave me goosebumps, and not in a good way...RAMS gotta work on what she has and hope she does her best. It's like putting a jigsaw puzzle together. I waited one year to see this years team, kind of disappointed but gotta go with the flow and just hang in there till next season. Volleyball is a team effort...If you don't have an at least decent team, but who am I? Maybe the team turns around in the next couple of matches and become good... Good not great...

4 things going on w/ this team: 1) recent recruiting 'gap' is catching up with UH; 2) Robyn is new at this: report card in 2-3 years; 3) WVB is SUPER competitive; 4) growing pains are here!

People should also take into consideration that Hawaii is playing a bunch of people together who have only played together for a month or so (I have, I joke a lot but this is true). Gaskin, Liva, and Akiu are seniors but new starters to the team. Iosia is playing OH for part of the time. There is a lot of moving pieces and it's going to take awhile for them to get going. Even playing at their best, I don't know if this team has the talent to get to the NCAA's this season. Their digging is good but they don't have a whole lot of firepower on offense and their blocking needs major work.
