It will be interesting to see what Robyn's recruiting philosophy is going forward. She has 3 scholarships remaining for 2019, and 2 or more scholarships for 2020. We do know 1 scholarship for 2020 is reserved for Lang (Setter). How many of those 3 remaining scholarships for 2019 will she reserve for transfers, and for what positions? Will Robyn try to bring in a transfer setter who is one and done, or have 2, maybe even 3 years remaining? Will Robyn use her 3 remaining scholarships on transfers, or will she hold on to 1, maybe 2 scholarships for 2020? Going forward, what positions will Robyn be recruiting for come 2020, and beyond? These are questions, in my mind, that will define Robyn's philosophy on recruiting for the Wahine team. Hopefully Robyn brings in a Junior setter that will train under Iosia, than start in 2020 with Lang as a backup.

I truly believe whoever Robyn brings in as Libero, if she does at all, will not be awarded a scholarship automatically. She would have to prove herself first. The way Akiu did, before she was awarded a scholarship. It really depends who it is and what's available. If an Ali Longo type comes sniffing around, you offer them a scholarship.

It was a bad decision on his part to leave, right when Cal Poly is on the rise as a nationally ranked program again. Part of their success is because of players like TVW, but any program has to start somewhere. And they have a good core returning from this year's squad. Yes, Cal is in the PAC12, better conference, more money, but they weren't that good this year. He is starting fresh again, with players that he didn't recruit. Cal has had very good teams in the past. Great school. If he is a good recruiter that is a very good job to have.

Sounds like it was a logical next step. Tough loss for the team. I thought he is a good coach. Wonder if any of the players will leave. Congrats though!

I would hire Mick Haley as a associate head coach......................MICK is a great talent evaluator and recruiter.

And he was lucky when Torrey decided to go there to play alongside her sister.

This a Hawaii thread sorry about this.

Akiu was not automatically awarded a scholarship, and in my opinion, Akiu is better then Ali Longo. So unless the transfer is already an All-American, I do not see Robyn giving that transfer Libero an automatic scholarship.

So unless the transfer is already an All-American, I do not see Robyn giving that transfer Libero an automatic scholarship. In my opinion, I think Robyn was EXTREMELY lucky that Akiu was willing to come home as a walk-on, and I am glad she did decide to award Akiu with a scholarship. At the same time, if Akiu was not pulled to come back to play for her home state, and she was offered a scholarship to another school, then she could have very well chosen to play for another team. Whatever Robyn chooses to do, I hope that she makes the right decision in regards to finding a possible transfer Libero. To be honest, if a player like Tastad were to take an interest in Hawaii, I would offer her a scholarship because it is possible for her to walk-on at many other schools like USC, etc. (closer to home), and she still has a strong argument to start. If Hanawahine were to be interested in coming back, she might be drawn to play for her home state (like Akiu), and in this case, I see her walking on.

Even if Hanawahine was to come home, I don’t think she deserves a scholarship. Akiu was a second team All Big 12 player her sophomores year before getting hurt and losing her job. Akiu also played for the CNT in 2017 so she is a known commodity and a proven player. Kyra does not have that resume so she will be coming in with a LOT to prove.
Robyn is not going to give her the job just because she was on the roster at UO. She does not have enough PT to jump ahead of Okino IMHO.
If Gong steps up and our two freshmen recruits become proven passers, there will be even less of a need for an extra libero/DS. Wonder if Robyn is looking for some HS walk ons to fill the roster.

What I am more concerned about after what occurred today, with the resignation of Mattis is, will there be a 2019 Volleyball season. Which will come first the 2019 Volleyball season, or a nuclear war. With Child Mind Trump, I am putting money on a Nuclear War. Not unless Congress grow some balls and finally stands up to him, will there be a 2019 Volleyball season.

Does anyone follow Kaiser Cougars volleyball? Know whats up with Kaili Taylor? I know she graduates next year wondering if she could make it on to the wahine team... shes only 5'8 wont cut it as a OPP or OH in d1 volleyball, but wondering if she could be a libero or DS specialist?
serious question from someone who has never seen her play.

If you are talking about Nikki Taylor's adopted sister, I have seen her play a couple of times this past season. Do not see her as a D1 volleyball player, at best D2, if that.

IMHO, the gems besides All of ILH, is Toodie Sopi and Nika Danielson. Incoming Sophomore and Senior.
