When HPU played this season at the St. Andrew's Priory gym, they won all of their matches, with the exception of the 5 games loss to University of Nebraska-Kearney (This was a good match). But I am not sure if the 5 times HPU played at the Neal Blaisdell Arena (HPU doesn't practice there, just once in a while play matches) where 2 of their losses happened is considered a home court advantage for HPU, since both Chaminade and BYU-Hawaii are on the same island as HPU. But, I can see it being a home court advantage for HPU when they played UH-Hilo and Montana State University-Billings there.

I think you gotta add Wisconsin to this list. The band is the biggest advantage for the Badgers.

New Mexico State
Average 1200+ fans /home game over last two seasons. Crowd seems to be knowledgable and will raise the noise level after even the smallest rally by opponents. Baseball players are in full force at opponents end of court. Lots of student suport. And NMSU's record stands for itself the last two years...60-7 combined overall (not sure home court breakdown).
This is a homecourt advantage regardless of record.
I know it's a down year, but Washington State has traditionally had a reputation. Rowdy (to varying degrees) fans in a smallish gym. Couple that with limited accomodations (or bad weather) in Pullman, meaning a stay in Spokane (or perhaps Seattle), along with a flight from Seattle to Spokane, and/or a 2 hour bus ride to Pullman.
*grins* It warms my heart to hear that BearClause, thank you! To back that claim here are the Cougars' win-loss records since Bohler Gym was re-opened for business in 2000. (Note: neutral sites not included) Bohler: 38-27 (58.5 winning percentage) Away: 29-48 (37.7 winning percentage) Since the 2000 season the Cougs have upset nine top 25 opponents in Bohler Gym (I did not include any matches where WSU was ranked higher than the ranked opponent). I hope these stats make some sort of case for my favorite venue.

No one has a bigger home court advantage than Hawaii. Not only the SSC, but the fact that the visiting teams, have traveled thousands of miles, are in a very scenic place full of distractions, and they have to play in front of a very large, partisan, crowd that doesn't show a lot of love for the visiting teams, no matter who they are! I agree with everything except the part about hawaii fans don't show a lot of love for visiting teams. You make it sound like the crowd at SSC is like the crowd in Fresno. The volleyball fans in Hawaii are among the most knowledgible and friendliest. In fact, they are known to give a round of applause for long rallies, regardless of who wins them. I've witnessed this many times over the 20 years I've watched the Wahine play. I think you just threw that in to make a case for Hawaii. The ones who don't show love for the visiting teams are BIK, = Idaho Boy® and Mary. Hehehe ;D

And I don't mean this in a bad way to diss Beachman, but the Wahine fans just don't like the Beach. But I definitely agree with you that the Wahine crowd has to be on of the friendliest if not the friendliest in the nation. They applaud on good plays, not only plays that the Wahine win, but all-around great volleyball they'll show some love.

I'd love to go watch a match at the NU Coliseum as well as at SSC. Is it possible to get tickets at NU though? I heard they sell out every match. SSC is big enough that I could go on an off-weekend and still find a seat I bet.

The Nebraska crowd did look like an awesome crowd when the Wahine played them in the regional final a couple years ago. But definitely you'll be able to find a seat if you go on an off weekend. The games don't sell out that often, but there are always a lot of fans at the games. I think this years Wahine team averaged between 6-7 thousand a game.

Below is a preliminary list of the teams that benefit most at home, aka those with the biggest home court advantages. I calculated these by adjusting the HCA for the individual team in Pablo, while having everyone else's set to be the same. I didn't go back and recalculate rankings based on the HCA, and one can imagine that there will be some enhancement of the HCA if you do that (for example, Texas A&M is listed at 965, but when I did a full fit with them (one of a few that I did), it ended up at 1085, a little bit extended). Teams with exceptionally high individualHCAs look to be a little overrated when using a single HCA for all, whereas teams with low individual HCAs will be slightly underrated. These are based on scores through last week, and do not include this week's matches (although I will do that after I get the Pablo rankings done). Recall that the average HCA was 333 last week. There is absolutely NO correlation between individual HCA and absolute rank. The top end: Boise State | 1310.1 | Texas-Pan American | 1155.6 | Middle Tennessee | 973.6 | Texas A&M | 965.3 | South Florida | 902.1 | Washington | 877.4 | Hofstra | 877.3 | Montana State | 874.3 | Arkansas-Pine Bluff | 870 | Arkansas State | 864.5 | Providence | 822.5 | Quinnipiac | 817.2 | McNeese State | 807.1 | Mississippi Valley State | 785.7 | James Madison | 783.8 | IUPUI | 776.2 | Canisius College | 752 | Wyoming | 751 | Furman | 742.1 | Temple | 741.8 | Toledo | 739.4 | Connecticut | 738.4 | San Diego State | 738.3 | UCF | 726.5 | Eastern Kentucky | 719.4 |
The bottom end. These are the teams that have played much better on the road than at home. Centenary | -99.4 | St. Marys | -116 | UNLV | -126.8 | Delaware State | -134.3 | Alabama State | -140.5 | Troy State | -143.5 | Belmont | -158.3 | North Texas | -180.5 | Coppin State | -203.5 | Notre Dame | -211.1 | Northeastern | -220.2 | Oregon | -229.4 | Norfolk State | -235 | Liberty | -246.8 | Mercer | -263.3 | Akron | -304.2 | South Dakota State | -307.7 | Maryland | -471.7 | Jacksonville | -536 | North Dakota State | -680.3 |

I am surprised that Georgia Tech's vibrant O'Keefe Gym has not been mentioned. Anyone who has come to a game in O'Keefe will remeber the ringing in your ears as you leave the building. The GT Pep Band shows up every game, most games sporting over 40 members - playing mostly obnoxiously-loud songs. The cozy gym, with it's low ceiling and loud 1000-plus fans is definitely not pleasurable for any team to come into.
With a excelent 43-2 record the past 3 seasons (only losses: a 5-game heartbreaker to then-ranked #11 UNC on Oct. 5, 2002 and Ohio State this year at 1:30pm with an empty gym - fans were still recovering from the unbelievable football win vs Clemson late the night before), there is no arguing that GT volleyball has a home-court advantage in O'Keefe Gym

Better than average (333), but not all that close to the top.

From Agent Buchwald's post: The bottom end. These are the teams that have played much better on the road than at home. Centenary -99.4 St. Marys -116 UNLV -126.8
This doesn't quite seem to work. St. Mary's has three losses: two are to San Diego, one at home and one away. So that's a tossup. Their other loss was in Utah, so since they've lost twice as many on the road this season as they lost at home, how do they get rated better on the road?
