This is one of the best game threads I have seen! Great job ilikecorn I think this game is pivotal for both teams. Michigan St. lost their 1st game of the year to Tennessee and then won their last 12 beating absolutely nobody of relevance (UNC is in total rebuild) while Iowa has lost to Colorado, Washington, and Lipscomb, and are coming into the match on a 3 game winning streak against 3 solid teams that have received votes for top 25 in Iowa St., Wyoming, and Syracuse. I have no idea if Michigan St. is pretty good, bad, or decent, but I know Iowa can be good. Add that to Iowa playing at home and I am going with Hawkeyes 3-1 UNC still has a ton of talent. So does Auburn, but I would not call that a preseason statement win for Michigan.

I just don't think anyone can say with any certainty if Michigan St. is good or bad based on their preseason schedule because it was very weak. After a few B1G matches you will be able to tell.

I'm going to go ahead and assume this is the first time ever the VT faithful have put more votes in Iowa's favor over Michigan State.

Game on!
MSU seems to be running a 6-2 for the first time all season. I just don’t see an upside to doing this with this team. Seems silly to leave your 6-2 setter playing only back row.

I noticed in their stats it had looked like they were using two setters at points during the non-conference but it had looked like they were alternating running a 5-1... interesting they're opting for a 6-2 now.

In game related news - Michigan State takes their 1st timeout at 13-9, lead Hawkeyes! I guess it might be too much to hope for someone to be at the game who can give live updates?

At 16-10 Hawkeyes finally hit their first ball "just" in play... 1 attempt by Wing & 1 attempt by Louis until Taylor puts it away! Hitting % now at .818 for Iowa.

#FightForIowa!
Hawkeyes take the 1st set 25-19
Fun fact: this is the first time we've beaten Michigan State in the first set of a match since 2010. Website claims 2015 but they're actually showing results from Iowa/Maryland not Michigan State.
