Do you have inside information on Choy and you know she is transferring? Or are you just buying into all the gibberish that is being spewed throughout this forum by recent new Hawai'i posters no i do not have inside info, well we do need a setter for next year so anything is possible. Why get a one year setter, what about 2020 and so on? This one year transfer thing messes up the flow of the team. I think, UH should get a four-year setter for the future and not every year looking for a setter. My opinion.

Because the best for 2019 is committed and UH has also already secured Kate Lang who is 2020, one of the top setters in this class. Best bet is a junior/senior transfer with experience that will provide some space in between classes.

Fitzner’s mom played for the Wahine

Fitzner’s mom played for the Wahine she should commit to us because 1. her mom played for us, 2. she will have the opportunity to be a 4 year starter and 3. She will have one of the greatest setters in USA history coaching her

Regarding RAMS (and other great setters-turned-coaches), it doesn't matter how great you were as a player. You need good athletes to begin with. I don't recall Debbie Green, Christy Johnson, Lizzy Fitzgerald, and the like churning out great setters in their respective programs. Who was Lauren Carlini's setting coach? I can't even name him/her. Who was Jordyn Poulter's setting coach? Can't name him/her.
Hawaii currently has RAMS but both Faith Ma'afala and Norene Iosia haven't been all that great. Hawaii has the best middle blocker in history in Anjelica Ljungqvist and our middles aren't doing all that well re. blocking. So, in sum, you need great players for the coaches to work with.

Recruiting, scholarships and availability (of both recruits and schollies) isn't like shopping on Amazon/Ebay! Timing is involved, yearly roster rotational-changes are in play, transfer rules Are (usually) Very anally-specific, and the quality of recruits Diminishes Dramatically: once the top players have committed in their recruitment. As these other posters have stated, most of the cream-of-the-crop 2019 setter recruits ARE long gone: why waste a valuable scholarship on a scrub if ya can find a quality transfer?

What do we need to bring in next year and beyond? virtually everything. When you deviate from recruiting top tier talent, you end up with what we have now, average to mediocre players that are hitting south of .200, deplorable setting and inconsistent blocking, Only our D is on par with past years. Aside from Tita and perhaps Noreen who I believe is salvageable, you can toss everything else into the waste basket and start rebuilding from scratch. The Cal Poly match was winnable, its the chronic unforced errors by our hitters and setters that killed the match, especially early on when they dug themselves a 2 set hole. I once heard: yuh can't turn crap into a gourmet meal, with what we're seeing on the court this year, I don't believe these performance problems are fixable, not against the decent teams anyway. I believe the new players being added to our program is a great start in the rebuilding process, so long as we continue recruiting aggressively year after year.
