Wow. Already started on a recruit? Welcome to Hawaii Kate. Sure you want to do this?? He is a bandwagon Hawaii fan. He isn't part of the Hawaii Ohana.

You mean Rika-chet Okinawa. The way Rika is playing D right now, I would be ecstatic if Via came into our program playing at that level. As for Lang, looks like a decent setter, great location and pace...she'll do fine here. Wish we could clone Noreen and have her play another 4 years, she'll be sorely missed by the Wahine faithful.

Noreen will be a humongous loss. She is everything to the program now.

Did you even watch the video? It was the first play she set lol Isn’t this a tape of a all star team?? Maybe she didn’t have a good feeling with her middles. I also read this ream is loaded at the pins so maybe she was instructed to be more pin heavy...like many teams are. They had really good middles too. E.g., their third best MB (Annabelle Smith) was #26 on the senior aces list. She barely played in that match. The two who played most were the #5 and #31 senior aces. If someone wants to see if the coaches didn't want the middles to be set much (or if passing didn't allow it), you could compare how often Sydney Yap (the other setter) set the middles to how often Lang did. If you got more matches, you could even compare how often each set Okammor or L. Smith (or A Smith when she was playing). I'm not that curious but it would be interesting to compare.

I'm worried that the weakest link in next year's otherwise loaded squad will be the setting position. No disrespect to Lang but she'll be a freshman expected to make the kind of plays that seniors Bailey Choy and Norene Iosia made routinely. That's not going to happen.
Hawaii has three scholarships. Two will be for Lang and the rumored 6'3" Euro OH. I don't think Via is getting a scholie, as far as I know. Crossing my paws for a stud transfer setter.

I actually want a libero, although I suppose we could try to convert VanSickle or Wagoner.

Who knows, maybe Georgia Via could be the next coming of Nalani Yamash*ta or Tita Akiu?

I really hope we can get an experienced transfer setter in like Choy next season! It’s hard for Lang to come into a well esteemed school like Hawaii and make plays like Iosia and Choy. But I believe she is a senior ace 100? So she could surprise. Recruiting hitters won’t be necessary since we have 90% of the firepower returning next season. On top of this talented freshmen squad that will be pretty much our starting lineup for the next three seasons.

I would say its highly likely the last two scholarships go to foreign players. We are a week away from signing day and not a peep outside of Lang.
Koavball mentioned a Euro outside. And we obviously need a second setter, whether its a freshman or transfer.
But as static mentioned, I'd also say we REALLY need a stud libero, altho Hanawahine already is on scholarship. If not, like static mentioned, we could always shift over Van Sickle or Wagoner, although I would think Wagoner would be the first option.

Yeah, seems like securing that 2nd setter is the biggest recruiting hurdle right now. We were very fortunate to land Choy as an experienced transfer setter, ...maybe we'll luck out & lightning will strike twice.

I hope they'll use a scholarship to get a setter via the transfer portal. That should get more active soon. There will probably be a few setters who want to transfer.

Another season of 6-2 hell will be hard to stomach.
Any transfer option please just stay away or you'll end up like Choy and Vig getting Ulmered.
Lang or bust over 6-2, if we only have one setter Lang and she goes down we can have Sickle set, can't be worse than Iosia and who wouldn't love to see her set.

Hoping for a transfer setter with D1 experience (eg Saige, Akeo) or a setter with international experience
