Again, good or bad, although all of these except Florida are good surprises.

(Okay, so I'm a little biased.)

Is anyone really surprised by Nebraska? Not me. Texas is just finally cashing in on expectations from the last two years or so. Not much of a surprise as much as an "It's about time!" Ohio State ... that was a surprise. The transfers and freshman really brought a new dimension and excitement to the team. They turned out to be the supporting cast that Gordon needed to bring her talents to the forefront of NCAA volleyball. Tennessee. Great season, but their best wins are over Florida in a season that is not indicative of the Florida program. Surprise, yes ... but not as impressive to me for some reason. Don't know what .. but anyway. San Diego. We kinda thought they would be a strong team with the addition of Carlsen. But I think that Pepperdine's injury bug helped them out a lot. Great season, but it seems to be a part of their cycle. Remember the Yanchulova years? St Mary's wins over Stanford TWICE are an achievement that not too many programs ever accomplish in one season. That is enough to get them really high up on my vote list. ... but ... OTHER - HAWAII Yes, I'm biased. But it's hard for me to fathom how a team that loses the starpower of Willoughby/Kahumoku and the entire supporting cast and still have an undefeated regular season defeating 6/7 Top 25 teams along the way. Who ever would've guessed that they would claim the AVCA #1 ranking? ANYONE? I expected this team to be a Top 10 team by season's end .... just not #1. THIS WAS MY VOTE

Washington State over USC.
Who'da thunk they're biggest upset of the season would be over USC in their last match of the season to avoid finishing in last place in the Pac 10 while Iowa did finish in last place in the Big 10 (though at least tied with Indiana this year.)
