As one of those "prickly" people... a really sincere "thank you" goes out from me for the creation of this thread. You are prickly?? I thought you were the most easy-going person I knew. Next to your wife.

But back to the topic, I'm not sure how many spots the team has left -- unless we're talking 2022.
It will be interesting to see where Rubright fits in next year. And whether they are tempted to try a 6-2, should they land another setter. This team is going to be deep, except for that position.

I hate to say it but I’ve been looking for a really good junior setter this year hoping she wants to transfer. It’s really not that I don’t have confidence in Sara and what Hugh can do with her, but I think they need depth there. I am also not convinced they won’t run a 6-2 next year with as many weapons as they have.

Is there a setter out there that a) is better than Sara, and b) is interested in transferring?
From what I’ve seen of Sara, I think she looks like she’ll be just fine. We’ve been so lucky to have SSS these last four seasons, it’s going to be really difficult for anyone to match what she’s done, but Sara has been training with her the last two years. I don’t think we need to be out scouting for transfers.

With Taylor Morgan and Regan Pittman ahead of her, I would not be surprised if Rubright red-shirts...but what do I know? Of course, I read that Rubright is coming early (starting school in January), so that may not be something she is interested in. I can't see the Gophers running a 6-2, since that would prevent use of Samedy as a 6 rotation right side (which appears to be the preferred preference)

OK, so let's talk about the double-sub for the right side. On paper, if you have two good setters and two good right side blockers/hitters, it seems like a good idea to at least try, right?
Everyone always brings up the idea of "well no, that would take Samedy out of hitting out of the back row right".
So here is my question: what are the stats?? How effective and how often does she kill out of the back row right?? Is it THAT important to our offense? And then, how effective is she as a back row defender on the right side? We know that she almost never serve receives on the back right.
Finally, if she really doesn't feel good about having to come out in the back row ... what about Samedy as a 6-rotation OH next to 6OH Rollins??
But then you're taking Barnes out ... and that couldn't happen until Hart graduates, anyway. Unless Hart would hit on the right side? The other right side hitter/blocker I'm thinking of though is Martin, who already comes in for a half-rotation now and then, in exactly the double-sub I'm talking about here.

Future Gopher, Anna Wolf, plays this evening with a chance to make it to state (WI). You can watch it here:
River Falls recently lost their setter (Jr., committed to UMD) for the year to a foot injury. They have a capable backup.

Found this interesting article in the Star Tribune on future Gopher Rachel Kilkelly. Yes she has been a setter, but plans on being a DS for the Gophers. Out of the four DS on this team, Sophie will be graduating, Litzau is a Junior and McGraw (Freshman) and Barnes (Sophomore) already starting. So I am not sure how they plan on using her, if they do at all. www.startribune.com/shakopee-setter-rachel-kilkelly-motivated-to-pass-succeed/444903723/

Hope we get her for one more year though....

Could someone outline the depth at middle and outside the gophers have coming in? Who’s taking over for Hart in 2020?

Somebody really should put together a depth chart to show who you have coming in and who Minny has going out. Not really seeing the purpose of this thread without it but at least a few people have brought up incoming recruits.

But Samedy needs to start producing from the backcourt for that to be a worthwhile option. We're two years in and still no sign that it will be a high % option. And that's with *Sam* setting. I don't like the 6-2, personally, so I hope they don't use it. But it does get more people involved (which is not necessarily a good thing, but can be).

The fact Hinkle is the libero for NL, ahead of Rachel, tells you how good Hinkle (UCLA recruit) is.
