I haven't read that anyone is in love with the 6-2, just pondering the possibility. The issue with the 5-1 is the OH hitting over the setter. Really the best situation is to have the opportunity to switch setter/opp so that you have a blocker up there when you need it - like the double sub. I don't really see us using it in part because our DS, Barnes, is better in the back than any of our hitters and we need the defense. IMO a best case for 6-2 would be when a team has two setters who hit as well or better than the other players on the team. When your best two players are setters, then you want them both on the floor. I think the setter-hitter connection can be developed for two setters if they are of that caliber. Except there's so much more to setting than blocking. I'd rather have a great short setter than a good blocker whose sets are mediocre. Interesting that they inserted Martin in the Michigan match tonight and had Barnes take the 2nd contact. True, about the blocking vs. setting. But if you can have both, wouldn't that be better. I'll have to watch for that play when I watch later on tonight. I just got home and am watching Ill/Neb.

I want to see a 6-2 like we ran in 2004. How's Steph at setting? I hadn't scrolled down and was thinking of just that Minnesota team after reading (R)uffda's post.

Are SSS sisters going to be Gopher material? If so how long until they commit?

I like the idea of Barnes taking 2nd contact when Seliger-Swenson is out except that there is only one point in the rotation in which Seliger-Swenson is in the front and Barnes is in the back (I think). They must have a different sub-for-blocking scheme for each spot in the rotation, this one has Barnes take 2nd contact.

They are special though and great people They’re 8th graders who are varsity starters at Hopkins. I would say the setter (Stella) has what it takes to be a gopher setter, time will tell for the other two! They are all on their way to being taller than Sam!

Are people here using 6-2 and double sub to mean the same thing? I thought a (true?) 6-2 meant that you essentially had two badasses on the right side, who can each set, hit, block, pass, etc.

Collegiate VB has enough subs that you can double-sub your setters and opposites, as long as your lefts can play all rotations (or you win/lose quickly).

I think people did pretty much qualify which they were talking about.

Shea Rubright was just named an AVCA Under Armour All-American for the Class of 2018, it will be good for her to get a taste of winning when she sees the Gophers win the NC in person.
