barring any (god forbid) transfers. I know it seems to piss people off here to talk about girls on the roster who might transfer. Everyone here wants every girl on the roster now to stay on the team for their entire eligibility window, it seems.
But ... I just would not be surprised to see backup OH transfer. I don't know which, if any, have a scholarship this season. I have a guess on one .... was a starter for most of last year. But got beat out early this year. Shouldn't be hard to guess who I mean, but I won't say the name here. I have no inside info. I'm taking a wild guess, based purely on lack of playing time this season. Doesn't mean that player won't stick it out and perhaps get back on the court in the future, with more development, etc.
And we know you’re going to be cheering the loudest if that happens. Sad.

If Minnesota did a 6-2, could they have the setters come in the back row for the middles? I think the only way that'd work is if Samedy and Rollins are opposite each other, Hart has to play OPP for 1 rotation, CC comes in for Hart & the other oppo (Martin?), and Barnes doesn't get in the game. Plus a 6-2 normally eliminates a majority of slide attacks, which is Pittman's preference. I'm not sure the Gophers would make that many changes. Can’t they double-sub every three rotations? The setter goes into the back row at position 1 and the blocker/hitter goes into the front row at position 4. I'm thinking if they want to keep Samedy and Rollins on the court for 6 rotations, then it seems like if they want to run a 6-2, then those 2 would likely have to be opposite of each other in the rotation, and the setters could either come in for the middles or for Hart & other opposite (Martin?). Otherwise, if they don't need Samedy in the back row, Barnes could come in for her, but then they could run out of subs towards the end of a close set.

She got beat out at the end of last season, too...and the one who replaced her in the starting line-up is the one who ended up transferring. So who knows what will happen right? She did not get beat out at the end of the season. She had an injury and could not effectively compete any longer. #FactsMatter

Just goes to show that lack of playing time doesn't always mean likelihood to transfer!

And we know you’re going to be cheering the loudest if that happens. Sad. Ive made to abundantly clear that I’ll support whatever decision she does or does not make. People here have made several great arguments for staying. But sometimes the desire to play wins out. Other times not. But you still feel the need to bash someone because they say something you don’t like. Make America great again, I guess.

People are continuously talking about the OH situation for next season. What about the MB positions? We have 2 more MB's coming in next season with 1 DS.
We presently have five MB's with one graduating which leaves 4 returning. Barring any transfers in that position, we will have 6 MB's on the Gopher roster for next season.
Guess the pot could be stirred again.

I think a 6-2 would be interesting. Whatever it takes for Minnesota to get the best players on the court is good. I don't think that Samedy has been all that effective in the back court and I do think Alexis Hart hits well back there. For back row attacks, Minnesota would still have Rollins for 3 rotations and Hart for 1 rotation leaving just 2 rotations where we have no back row attack. All this assuming that Barnes still comes in for Hart and there is no moving Samedy over to the left etc. Really the options are limitless. First, I don't actually think Minnesota should run a 6-2, its just fun to talk about. They won't, IMO, because Samedy can't set as well as Nielsen and I would guess that Nielsen can't hit as well as Samedy. To run a 6-2 that could earn you a champoinship, you need to not use up all your subs on your setters. Also, Barnes is so good defensively, better than any of our hitters, that a much better use of the subs would get her in the game. I think it would be better to have a 5-1 that could morph into a 6-2 when needed, which is what I think the double sub is. That being said, I think Martin should play. She blocks better than any other OH on our team. If the coaching staff is working on the connection between Nielson and Martin like I think they should, we may be seeing a lot more of her next year. BTW, McCutchen has yet to ask for my opinion on anything - go figure. lol.

Starting next year I would hate to not see McGraw Barnes on the court. Best back court in awhile for the Gophers. Can only get better. Samedy and Hart struggle back there. One more so than the other IMO. As far as SSS's defense (which has been a little shaky lately) we have no idea what to expect in her replacement, if they continue running the same offense next season.
I would rather see more adjustments at the net (may it be player, blocking etc.) than taking away from the back court we have established with the addition of Rollins. But I do agree with Ruffda ( I'm one of your fans) that Samedy's defense at times is frustrating along with her not connecting with SSS in hitting from the middle back. They always talk about "Sophomore Slumps", whatever that means.
Bottom line, I hope Barnes remains part of this offense moving forward.

I think the Wisconsin match was the first time Samedy was successful attacking from the back row but instead of attacking from middle back she was attacking from the right back. Made a big difference.

Just a FYI.......I see both Minnesota recruits for next season will be participating in the upcoming Girl's Volleyball State Championships at Xcel Energy Center. Ellie Husemann for Eagan (3AAA) and Rachel Kilkelly for Shakopee (2AAA). Believe I have the Regions correct.
