why did sc end up with so few total matches on the year? i know one tournament got canceled because of the hurricanes, but when was the last time a team ended the season having played only 24 matches (18 of which i assume were in conference...)?

that just means there were a lot of people that ranked hawaii #3 or lower and those that had hawaii at #1 had nebraska at #2...not that surprising considering the 5 game "win" at utah state...

Looks to me that the voters are trying to stay closer to what the seeding looks like. Albeit, Minnesota is one point above Washington, but the top 4 seeds are the top 4 teams in the AVCA poll.

If that tournament knocked out three matches, then they would have scheduled 27. Sounds about right to me.

Let's also not forget Nebraska's domination of Texas and Texas A & M(first Big 12 team to win at College Station) last week.

Yeah, I still can't picture Utah State taking two games off the number 1 (or 2?) team in the nation... I actually felt sorry for Utah State when we played them at the Thunderdome they were so overmatched. I guess Hawaii was overlooking Utah State for Utah?

Let's also not forget Nebraska's domination of Texas and Texas A & M(first Big 12 team to win at College Station) last week. While I would, and in fact did, predict Nebraska to win the match regardless, TAMU still had a realistic chance to complete their at-home season undefeated with all their players on the court. Unfortunately for them, their #1 AA middle twisted her ankle just two weeks ago and was unable to play (and is questionable for the tournament). Big12 co-Defensive POY Melissa Munsch is far and away the Aggie leader in blocks/game, aces/game, and digs/game. You simply cannot beat the steadily improving Nebraska without solid defense no matter how strong your home court advantage may be. There are plenty of teams out there that have a realistic shot at beating Nebraska. And they'd better hurry up and do it this year because it looks pretty ugly for the next three.

#1 or #2- it's all moot now. Of course it's moot now that Hawaii is #2 with Nebraska finishing out the regular season as #1 ;D
