What does Sarah Pavan and Kristina Fabris have in common other than being selected for FOY for their respective conferences? Pavan for Big 12 and Fabris for CUSA. They both come from the Waterloo Tigers Club Team. Has any other club had FOY in 2 or more conferences in the same year?

In the past, I've heard that volleyball competition was not nearly as good in Canada as compared to the US. However, Pavan is on a good track for National FOY and Gordon could be the National POY. I have just heard wrong all these years or are these two you mentioned plus Gordon just exception to the norm. Obviously they are exceptional athletes but how does VB up north compare to us southerner's version?

While Pavan and Fabris are undoubtedly outstanding players, I would venture to say that the quality of volleyball in Canada is still significantly under that of the US.Canada has and will continue to put out great players like the above, like Gordon and Schram as well, but the overall quality is spread pretty thin. Case in point. When the above mentioned Waterloo Tigers ventured south last year to play in a club tournament at Sports Performance, they got beat pretty handily by SPVB's 18-1 club. Pavan and Fabris were basically a two person team.

The original intent of the post was not a comparison between Canada and the US. It was a compliment to the Waterloo Tigers Volleyball club. The alumni from last years team also includes Amy Charlebois who has made important contributions to the Texas Tech team. With respect to the Chicago tournament, SPVB had an amazing team with amazing players. They won the tournament over everyone. The Tigers lost only to them in pool play and in the Championship finals.

I certainly didn't intend to belittle those accomplishments of the club. THAT is OUTSTANDING. In fact, it is a little embarrassing that the US has to go out of the country to find who could be the best senior and best freshman in DI Volleyball but that is certainly a tribute to the Canada program and specifically to the Waterloo Tigers in Pavan's case and her coach in particular

....Has any other club had FOY in 2 or more conferences in the same year? Not easy to match but here’re some achievements of CSKA JVC (Sofia, Bulgaria) ex-players: A. Kostadinova FAMU – 2003&04 MEAC* MVP M. Andonova FAMU – 2003&04 MEAC* First Team M. Pencheva UNLV – 2003 NJCAA Leader per kills. D. Koleva AR – 2003 SEC FOY M. Aladjova UNLV – 2004 MWC FOY Y. Stoyanova UT – 2004 SEC 2nd Team, All SEC Frosh Team (she started with CSKA but later moved to another club) *MEAC doesn’t announce FOY. Another one is all they except for AK and YS used to play in the same team.
