Is there a “reason for wanting to transfer”;column in the portal? There is an * with a "see volleytalk" notation. * Coach lied to player * Player would like to play more * Coach lied to player * Player has been bullied * Coach lied to player * Player didn't progress under system/staff * Coach lied to player * Player really doesn't care that much about VB anymore * Player lied to player I think that is what you would get if the portal had that information

All of these not on your list. Oh yeah - and the coach being honest with the player in that they may not or probably won't get the playing time they want.

I also don’t think most players are going to be totally honest either with existing school in fear of potential retribution. Can you imagine a player going to Compliance officer stating that the coach is completely psycho and is only good at mind games...ha ha most likely will stick with the basic 3: Homesick, Court time, academics. Kind of like when I went to confession as a kid - I had the standard 3 sins maybe a 4th as back up!

What are they? 1. foul language 2. impure thoughts 3. stole a loaf of bread?

Second, the standard 3 can vary by person and by age, but you’re on the right track. If I told them to you I would likely be committing yet another one.

I think a good reason why Players are not always telling the truth is that they don't want to appear bad talking a program even though the reason they left might not be playing time but bad treatment of players and perceived abuse. Coaches at their new school might not be keen to hear how rude or chaotic a program might is or hear a player talk bad about coaches . I think for players where playing time isn't the factor and they are leaving a program this would be one of the major reasons along with wanting to be close to home . Followed by a few who might committed to a lower level conference at the time but are really capable of playing at a better conference

Palm Beach Atlantic University (NCAA DII member of the Sunshine State Conference) is seeking a high level transfer setter! Must be interested in being a part of a strong national program in one of the toughest volleyball conferences in DII, competing at the highest levels of the NCAA DII, and all with a focus of being part of a strong Christ-centered program! More information on our program can be found at www.pbasailfish.com Pretty sure this is illegal to do.

Maybe they thought it was still around.

They just voice a need, no player is personally addressed, if players are in transfer portal they can contact them, if players are not in transfer portal it is illegal for them to contact the coach.... coaches would need to ask a player anyway if they are in portal and then check if they are and in D2 ask for full release. Prep volleyball surveys schools on a regular basis and inquires about their needs

But I guess the NCAA didn’t want coaches publicly canvassing for transfers. I’m not sure I understand the benefit of it in the portal era.

They need to be as honest as that coach is going to be... I know of very few situations where a college coach isn't going to reach out to the former coach and inquire about the transfer. And in most of those cases the former coach is going to be brutally honest (in their opinion) on the SA... The SA should be brutally honest as well

The SA should be brutally honest as well Perhaps - but neither should be posted on social media or the press. Aside from that, I don't really know of that many transfers where there was rumors of a coach being abusive. It does happen, but when you look at the large number of transfers, there is usually only one or two programs where there is talk of mistreatment - other than playing time. And some of those rumors are not completely true.

Still kids are afraid to talk bad about anyone bc they don’t know who is talking with who. Mom always taught, “if you can’t say anything good its better to say nothing at all”. I still think that’s the best policy. With the new frequency I don’t think transfers have as negative oa connotation as they’ve garnered in the past so probably best to let your play speak and move forward with what you want to become. Burn no bridges from where you came. Let the coaches talk.
