Except we are talking about the last V Tech game. I agree about the “casted” WF setter should have been called tighter,,, the refs should have stuck with the rules and not let the plays continue on double touches.

The officiating in the Va Tech game was horrible....esp the down ref and the replay challenges....but cant argue with our blatant errors and going down 7-0 in the 5th. Archer was not connecting with anyone but Destiny and our defense was also off bc of switching to the 5-1 last minute. I think this showed why we lost the first 7 or 8 matches we did and that our defense relies on the 6-2 but also Hunter connects better with some players.
I guess tonight we find out after the ncss tourney show if we get and accept nivc bid or if the off season begins.

Makes perfect sense! Except for that neither job is open or coming open. WFU has an interim head coach, whose team came in last place. Looks like a job that might open up.
Nagel has been at Duke for 20 years and hasn't won 20 games since 2016. Seat looks hot!!!!
The WF interim coach was recently offered the Head Coach position. Nagel seat should be hot tho.🔥 Just not sure if volleyball is a priority at Duke.

The interim tag was removed from Coach Smart's job title on 11 Oct. The team not only weathered the coaching situation, but injury as well. Duke was the most disappointing teams this season, compared to last year's finish and this year's expectations.

Nagel seat should be hot tho.🔥 Just not sure if volleyball is a priority at Duke. It isn't. Their once top 10 WBB program has rapidly declined too and they've still retained that coach. I don't see VB getting any more attention than it.

So North Carolina not in the NIVC but Boston College is. I assume UNC turned down its invite considering UNC finished higher than BC and had a much higher RPI. Anyone have any insight for this? Were they invited and declined or not invited at all?
Also interesting to note: TCU got an invite to the field at 9-17 with a 111 RPI. I find it hard to believe UNC didn't get an invite at all.

I must also say: I'd have an easier time accepting that they are not in the pool because the team voted as whole to not go to the NIVC or if they decided not to participate based on injuries. If Sagula declined based on pride just like Hatchell (WBB) did, I'm not cool with that. The seniors deserve it as well as the underclassmen in gaining postseason experience.

He’s like the queen, a bloody figurehead that does NOTHING but collect a paycheck Duke WBB is a joke thanks to the psychotic J P McCallie (shoulda been canned years ago). And yes, vball was the most inexplicable underachieving teams in the history of volleyball (HELLO....we have Owokiniron for gods sake), and that is because Nagel doesn’t know %*$#. She should be fired, but of course the AD will do nothing

So the season is officially over....while we knew we would not get an NCAA bid due to our collapse at the end, I was hoping to play in the NIVC....however, UNC was OFFERED but the higher ups did turn it down. UNC WBB and VB share facilities....if you look a the events calendar, they left Fri and Sat open for possible NCAAT games, but the institution does not plan around the NIVC as they see it as a "not good enough to be in the field of 64 tournament." I also dont think the admin saw that putting money into the tournament was best. Since they are not in any tournament, it allows more spring practices and scrimmages due to NCAA by laws. While its early to do a 2020 thread, I will wait a few weeks , there are some keys to consider..... Preseason performance will follow you and can come back to bite you....even when we were winning, our RPI was not where it needed to be because of our poor start. Hope that lesson is learned. Absolutely no excuse to lose to Wake at HOME and at Va Tech regardless of our injuries....inexcusable. the youth mindset of complacency and thinking we should win set in and we were not prepared to face teams coming full at us who had nothing to lose. The coaches have to own up to this to and really help the team continue maturing over the off season. Now we wait and see if there are transfers out, transfers in, or coaching changes....while Joe and CO really turned it around midseason, the end goal was not achieved....year 3 in a row of no NCAAT appearance. There will be a transfer or two in, but the question is who and what caliber. there are some nice options on the table...Esterly saw the writing for her career and decided not to play her last year....Clark is nursing her back injury and I believe is trying to medical redshirt. With Atherton's ups and downs, will she play her last year or will Mitrovich take the reigns since she is coming earlier? It does seem the goal is to have Harrison as a 6 rotation outside as they have been giving her more back row time...Howard is a lock at middle but will Merkler take the other spot or someone else? She is enrolling in the spring which will help tremendously. Cox hit her stride the past few matches. Good sign. Need more development our of Peck. So excited to see Wurl take the libero spot. And the dynamic between coaches did not look good when things were going bad...esp between Joe and Susan and proven when they almost got into an argument at VA Tech over setting and defense. IF we keep all our core players (Harrison, Howard, Cox, Peck, Austin, Wurl) I think we will continue growing over the spring and they will be a very good center to grow around. we have so much potential to take back the ACC and get back into the tourney if we can just get stability from start to finish. My hope is this team will take on a mentality of being the aggressors and go getters. Now that season is over, we wait and see the next 3 weeks for any big changes.

Great assessment. I didn't even consider the AD and higher ups role in accepting the bid; I assumed it was up to the coaches. I sometimes forget that volleyball isn't football or men's basketball at this school and thus not treated as such (i.e. when the men's BB team participated in the NIT in 2010). This season really flew by and it's disappointing we couldn't have a postseason.
Susan really needs to chill out. I wonder how much longer she'll stick around given she can't keep her cool when things get tough. Maybe they should give her spot to Kiki.

I truly wish we could find a way to keep KIKI as more than a volunteer....she and Mike are the ones that really helped with the growth.

That's my biggest fear; if they can't keep Kiki will that mean others leave?

The coaches behavior at the WF and VA Tech matches looked like it did the beginning of the season....barking and yelling...and we see the results. If that isn't addressed and players made to feel comfortable, I wouldn't be surprised if unhappy players begin looking again.

The yelling disrupts the players to a point of declined performance, motivation and confidence. Looked like early season games all over again.

Not UNC specific, but from what I've heard, seniors often would rather pass on the NIVC.
