I say this every year, I think, but that’s because it’s true: it is such a privilege to have been court side as these amazing women have come into their own. They are incredible people. I feel better about the future of the planet knowing it’s in their hands.

I feel better about the future of the planet knowing it’s in their hands. And that is why I actually started following this team and this sport. And I have never grown tired of it.

If you get a chance to pop up to the Square, hit Fromagination for all your cheese-related desires. Yes! Try the Dunbarton Blue, Marieke Foenegreek Gouda or Rebel Miel (new sheep milk cheese).
And get some beer at Ale Asylum (very near the airport on Pankratz) or Giant Jones (931 East Main, northeast of the Capitol) !

For cajun, New Orleans Takeout is literally across the street from the Field House. For a good breakfast, Marigold Kitchen off the square on S. Pinkney. For burgers, maybe Dottie's on Francis ST. Italian, maybe Porta Bella, Francis ST. Cocktails, try Merchant. Mediterranean Cafe is a good lunch spot. The Field House has brats too, and can cut one up atop mac & cheese if you don't have time for real food outside. The Malt House at Union Corners on Milwaukee street has a nice beer selection, but it's a ways from the UW campus and the Field House. The previously recommended cheese curds & beer at Great Dane wouldn't be a bad choice. Great stuff. Brats on mac and cheese sounds really good. One thing, however. Since I live in Louisiana and am married to a Cajun, when I travel I never eat anything New Orelans/Cajun/blackened whatever!

Maybe we need a poll: Best culinary path to the final 4... I would say drink bourbon in Kentucky (#LiquidCalories) on your way to Austin for some Texas BBQ

Giant Jones, which is only open Thursday-Saturday, has good, but strong, beers. It is also in the same building as the Old Sugar Distillery, which makes its own cider line as well. In that area, Alimentari makes sandwiches as big as your head, which you can take in to Giant Jones.

I completely understand the sentiment; my daughter just made a food pilgrimage to New Orleans last month. However, peoplelike Wynton Marsalis do eat at NOTO when in Madison, so they might not disappoint.

Old Sugar Distillery is worth a trip on its own if you're into cider, or liquor and craft cocktails.

Back to the topic of the actual players, I wanted to call out this bit from Mallory Dixon in Dennis's senior week article. Here is the gift Dixon is leaving the program: What I wanted to leave behind was setting a tone for the people who are on the B side, that the A side can only be as good as what they play against every single day. It used to be kind of like, ‘Oh crap, I’m on the B side.’ But we’ve turned it into, ‘We’re going to be as good as we can be in order to make you guys as good as you can be.’Not to minimize anyone else's gifts - every player leaves her unique mark - but Dixon's gift may well prove to be the most impactful on the program as a whole. This attitude is something many of us have talked about, particularly in the face of comments that so-and-so should transfer as they will probably not ever see playing time. I haven't met many players who understand and embrace their role as completely as Dixon has, and I'm so, so grateful. I really hope her gift of B Squad pride can endure for generations.

I don't think you can be much more of a 'team player' than Mallory Dixon.
