Arkansas beat both NW State and UALR 3-0. Despite the easy-looking wins, it was a tough day for the Hogs as Dirrigl looked like she rolled her ankle pretty badly in the second set of the day against NWSU. The very good news is that the newcomers - Maggie Cartwright and Jill Gillen - both picked up the slack very well and had really nice debut matches with more responsibility than would be ideal. I think they are both going to be very good as they settle into things. The Hogs will probably take some lumps this year, but they are building with some solid pieces, imo.

She's terrific, she'll be fine. You're probably right. I'm definitely a Lilley fan but something seems off. Not playing like herself. Usually her location is solid but tonight she wasn't connecting with any of the hitters. And her defense wasn't her usual either. She made Utah's block look amazing. |

Alabama swept Marist and Buffalo. (first time since 1998 back to back sweeps to start the season). Went to 5 with Colgate. Good weekend for 'Bama.

Arkansas needed 5 to beat Montana State. Hogs were clearly the better team, but some fatigue, inexperience, and lineup juggling made things much more interesting.
Fr OH Jill Gillen was named MVP of the tournament. Very well deserved, imho.

She's terrific, she'll be fine. Kentucky had a slow start last year too and was able to regroup. They need to make sure they’re ready for next weekend with the annual Creighton, USC, and UNI matches because those teams could give them fits of not prepared. |
