I'm confused more than my normal level of confusion. Piecing the Illini VB schedule per opponent VB schedules, Illinois VB has one open weekend prior to conference matches. I assumed that weekend to be Illini Classic, however Loyola Marymount schedule has Loyola Marymount playing Illinois at the Butler 'Bulldog Brawl'. (Butler schedule does not include Illinois, Belmont schedule does not include Illinois, Pacific schedule not published.) lmulions.com/schedule.aspx?path=wvball. 8/30 Tennessee at Tennessee 9/1 Tennessee HOME 9/6 Washington at Iowa 9/7 Colorado at Iowa 9/13 Illinois State at Illinois State 9/14 UCF at Illinois State 9/14 Marquette at Illinois State 9/20 Pacific at Butler (taken from another VT thread; Pacific schedule not yet published) 9/21 Loyola Marymount at Butler All but Pacific played in 2018 NCAA Tournament, so tough schedule. Please share corrections/updates. It would be very interesting if Illinois ends up playing Pacific. Not only did Coach Chris Tamas and his wife (volunteer Coach Jen) play vb at Pacific, senior MB Ashlyn Fleming transferred from UOP prior to last season. Let me channel Captain Obvious by saying the arrival of Fleming was extremely fortuitous for the Illini last season. Ashlyn was a vital cog in the success of the team last season and making the Final Four! Illinois volleyball fans owe UOP a triple dose of gratitude!

Perhaps by playing two away tournaments at reasonably close destinations, Coach Tamas has made the strategic decision to sacrifice hosting an Illini Classic in the upcoming season. Off the top of my head, I do not know how many consecutive years Illinois has been hosting the Illini Classic. I do know the importance of the strength of schedule in determining a team's RPI for rankings and making the NCAA tourney. I, for one, am very willing to travel to Illinois State (an hours drive away) and Butler in Indianapolis (a two hour drive) to perhaps give Illinois the opportunity to host a post season NCAA match or two.

9/6 Washington at Iowa 9/7 Colorado at Iowa Speaking of Iowa, what is the latest on Shymansky? His original 30 day suspension should be about up, now.

Just became a first-time season ticket holder today and popped in at Huff Hall to check out the view from my seat- not bad. It sounded to me like there aren't a ton of reserved seats left and the ticket office is still contacting folks who put down a deposit on season tickets. Hopefully that means we'll have some packed home games this season! Can't wait to see the 2019 Illini squad in action!

I doubt that Barta keeps Vicki beyond next year but it will provide her with a nice build onto her resume.

Poulter's a "once in a generation" type of athlete. Hope the Illini fans recorded her matches to fully appreciate and re-visit her unique combination of talents. If you missed that opportunity, start recording her USWNT matches as she develops. It might take another year or two but I'm projecting that she'll be leading Team USA in the coming years.

For purely selfish reasons, I hope your prediction comes to fruition. I have been a JP fan since I first heard that she was committing to the U of Illinois when she was a high schooler in Colorado. I knew little of the reasons why the number 1 high school setter in the country from far off Colorado chose to come to Illinois. For me it was a complete reversal of fortune from 1998 when the state of Illinois' best high school setter, 6'1" Elizabeth Gower, from Naperville Central High School (just a couple of miles away from where I went to high school) chose to attend the University of Colorado and play for Coach Pi'i Aiu. Gower had been a substitute setter for the U.S. Junior National Team, and was one of the top two or three setters nationally coming out of high school her senior year. Gower's recruiting story goes that when she visited Boulder, Aiu took her hiking into the mountains that surround the university, and she was immediately sold on setting for the Buffs. By the way, this was supposedly one of the recruiting tactics that Aiu regularly employed to sway girls to his program. So I was overjoyed to hear that Poulter was leaving the mountains of Colorado to come to the flat lands of Illinois. I only found out later that Poulter had been an Illini fan since she was young. I still am unaware of all of the details. However, I have heard JP's grandparents still reside in Charleston, Illinois, about an hours drive from Champaign. I have also read that she had a lot of Illini Orange and Blue decorating her bedroom as a youngster. Whatever the reason, for all my 50 years of following women's college volleyball, watching and supporting JP has been one of my greatest joys.
