Hames has grown on me a lot. Her defense is just so good, and her blocking is sound too, imo. Really solid vb player. Only criticism I have is her ability to attack. (Side note: one of the things that made Hunter so fun to watch was that she took OOS balls and could crush an overpass)
I think one of the questions about Hames is where does her professional career go, and how high is her ceiling beyond college (if she were to pursue that)

LOL...you really do have a grudge against Hames. Orr...I have to admit I have watched alot of tape but have not seen her in person. She is good but her defense is not even remotely close to Hames. I don’t have a grudge on hames I just think that she matches up with past Nebraska setters. Orr could’ve started for Nebraska this year. Her hands are insane. I think the biggest difference is her ability to set tempo and beat the block. 1 second before hames sets a ball you can literally say where it is going every time. Nebraska’s pins were constantly swinging against double blocks in the final. Watching Orr she has the exact same approach and contact point on every single set and sets a tempo ball to either pin and even the middle when out of system. Much more dynamic than hames I think. I would note that one of the main reasons the Huskers were going up against a double block so often was because the vast majority of sets were going to Foecke and Sun, rather than Hames’ setting technique.

That’s is true, but... the tempo of those sets made it way to easy for teams to close. They had so much time. And the predictability. Someone who knows volleyball but nothing about Nebraska and their tendencies I would guarantee agree that hames is predictable. Orr and xu are the best high school setters from this year which says a lot considering Orr is a sophomore. She may be one of the bof st setters to ever play in the NCAA.

I think being able to read Hames is a legitimate concern, but I'm sure she'll get more deceptive as she grows. Not sure if the questions regarding tempos of the sets are fair to put solely on her shoulders.

I hear ya......I just think Hames is so incredibly savvy about the game, positioning, etc. You can tell she is a coaches kid who has been around the game. I like her fire and determination because that aspect cannot be taught or coached. Orr is very talented but lacks that fire as of now....in my humble opinion.

Hames was a few points away from setting her team to a national championship as a freshman, against a well tuned Stanford machine.
Girls good! Let it be.

I'm happy we have Hames; and I'm happy a talented QB is coming to take her place! That makes things look look very rosy for the future! Stay healthy Miss Orr! Hope you all don't mind calling the Setter a QB! GO HUSKERS

Hames was predictable--but also Nebraska drastically simplified the offense it was running at the early/midway point of the season. I also think that's one of the catalysts that started Hames's and the teams' improvement.
Generally speaking, I always thought Nebraska chooses to play it safe--until it's not working and they have to change things up. They will almost never beat themselves.

But the question is... WHICH IS A QUESTION NOT MY OPINION SO CHILL WHEN U READ IT... is names capable of running a non simplified, faster tempo offense?

I think she can, whether or not she will remains to be seen. Nebraska doesnt typically run stuff all that fast. I mean yes it's not moon ball level but it's also not Oregon or Minnesota fast. They pretty much have the same philosophy imo as Penn State. This is what we do, stop it. With that said, personally I'd love it if Nebraska would incorporate some more combos and a generally quicker offense. But you have to have passing, obviously.
