In the spirit of the men's basketball ACC/BIG ten challenge I suggest that women's volleyball adopt a similar annual challenge.
After reading all the posts about the "soft" Penn State pre conference schedule, I suggest that what many people consider the two top conferences play each other every season.
I was a spectator at the Illinois USC match this season and can say without a doubt it was the most exciting women's college volleyball match I have ever seen.
Why not make it happen more often? I think it would be great for the game and would make for some fantastic matches.
FYI #1 Wake Forest @ #3 Illinois men's basketball tonight 6pm CST
GO ILLINI!!

I, for one, would actually pay money to see Iowa and Oregon battle for supremacy. The mere thought of such a tilt makes me go all a tingle.

I'd rather see Iowa playing Washington State. Washington St vs Minnesota also has a good underlying story, but not quite as good as Iowa/WSU. And the match isn't quite as interesting, either.

I'd rather see Iowa playing Washington State. Really? Most of Cindy Fredrick's players will be gone, either by transfer or graduation. Now I heard Pacific playing Stanford in the 2nd round last season was interesting. Rumor had it Dunning got the cold shoulder from the Pacific players he recruited, except for Jennifer Joines.

I think some kind of a Pac-10 Big Ten challenge or whatever you're suggesting could be interesting and good for the game of volleyball. But as a Big 12 fan I suggest that many people do NOT consider the Pac-10 and the Big Ten as the "two top conferences" in volleyball. Maybe in the past but at least not anymore.

Hmm I believe Penn State beat Stanford already and may have their chance at UCLA and Washington soon...
Their schedule is anything but soft...they play in the Big Ten...Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio State...et al remember?
Hawaii plays in the WACK....and they play every tough opponent at home.

Maybe a rotation of Big 10, Pac 10, Big 12, WAC, SEC?
It could be a great tourney. Maybe pool play based upon the previous year's standings with a quick elimination tournament.
Similar to a JO tourney.

If you look at the schedules this year, one might be more surprised by the lack of Big Ten/Big 12 matchups. 6 Big Ten/Pac Ten, but only 4 Big Ten/Big 12. Odd, considering that they both sit here in the midwest. One would think they would get together a little more.
Moreover, of the 4 Big Ten matches against the Big 12, 2 were Wisconsin (Missouri, Kansas), and 2 were Missouri (Wisconsin, Purdue). So 6 teams total.
OTOH, Big Ten/Pac 10 isn't all that much better, but still 10 teams in 6 matches (and 6 different Big Ten teams). Including that most interesting Indiana/Oregon St matchup (won by Indiana)

I too am surprised by the lack of Big 10/Big 12 matches given their geography. I can understand the Pac 10 not getting involved as there are a number of worthwhile programs on the west coast. However, I would think that some of the Big 10 schools would look to the Big 12 for some matches, especially in tournament situations. Easier travel for teams and fans alike.
MN does get together with Nebraska for spring matches.

Considering this isn't a WAC/Big Ten thread, I think the point is moot. Unless Nevada beats Minnesota shortly before armageddon arrives later in the day. Also, isn't that Darkwing Duck in your image? I like the character but wouldn't "Drake the Duck" be more appropriate. I like him better than Howard the Duck but consider how popular Howard is, I would expect the net to be flooded with pics of him, especially from the movie. Hmm I believe Penn State beat Stanford already and may have their chance at UCLA and Washington soon... Have you read Howard the Duck's comic books or have you perhaps only seen the movie?
The movie was very bad IMHO.
